Full-size truck results
Looking at the full-size truck category, the Ford F-series lineup of trucks (F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450) continues to dominate with the way Ford Motor Co. reports sales figures.
However, General Motors actually outsold the F-Series lineup (226,121 vs 199,463) when combining the Silverado and Sierra sales. Officially, GM reports those numbers separately.
Ram is holding onto third place even with a large sales drop. This is to be expected with a new 2025 Ram 1500 model just now starting to hit dealer lots. We should see some fluctuations on sales until the full roll-out of the 2025 model is out including the RHO.
Next, the Toyota Tundra posts a nice sales improvement even with all the turmoil it has faced in recent weeks with a rather large recall affecting 2022-2023 Tundra trucks.
The Nissan Titan continues to finish off its production run, and dealers are moving out the last of that full-size truck. This is the last model year for the truck.
Midsize truck results
The midsize truck results show once again the Toyota Tacoma remains on top, even with a large percentage drop.
Some viewers may draw the wrong conclusion suggesting people aren’t buying the new 2024 Tacoma, however like the Ram truck sales numbers, Toyota is just starting to ramp up production of the new pickup. It is likely Toyota will post a small loss in the 3rd quarter and a sales gain in the fourth quarter once the dealers have inventory.
The Chevy Colorado moves up a spot to overtake the Nissan Frontier in third place with a big sales boom. This is likely due to inventory on dealer lots now with the impacts of last year’s UAW strike dwindling and the Wentzville, Missouri, plant being at full production.
Coming in with a slight increase, the Ford Ranger rebounded from a pretty bad first quarter (1,918 pickups sold). This is a production issue and with that sorted out, I’d expect Ranger sales to continue to grow.
The Jeep Gladiator shows a significant drop in sales, and Jeep has cut production of the pickup to reduce inventory levels. It is also working on transitioning the plant for the expected launch of a Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid model.
Honda Ridgeline sales are way off, and it is rather unexplainable. There’s nothing I can find to justify the sales drop.
Finally, the GMC Canyon had a so-so quarter.
Compact truck sales
The Ford Maverick continues to be a massive hit among consumers, and Ford literally can’t build enough of them.
On the flip side, the more expensive Hyundai Santa Cruz didn’t have such a big quarter; however, it is a good seller for that brand.
Electric truck sales
For the electric truck sales, it is a hot mess of guesses on actual sales. Rivian doesn’t split out numbers and neither does Tesla.
The only accurate information we have is from Ford, GMC and Chevrolet.
From the information I found online, every brand sold decent numbers of trucks.
