You won’t believe this video from the University of Nebraska Lincoln working with the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility showing a Rivian R1T crashes through a highway safety barrier. The video is startling.
We’ve reached out to the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility for more information, especially in regards to if it has done a similar test with a gas or diesel truck. The organization replied it did do a similar test with a Tesla Model 3 but nothing for a truck. It is still working on finding any matching videos.
Also, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety pointed us to an article discussing some of its concerns with the weight of EVs and how fast they accelerate. There are valid concerns over crash safety with the heavy vehicles, how IIHS had to change its tests and how automakers need to look at brake performance among other things.
