So, here it goes.
Overview for what’s new on 2024 midsize trucks
The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon got their big changes for 2023, but Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma are all-new for this model year – which should make things interesting in the midsize truck segment. Honda Ridgeline gets a new trim, and the Nissan Frontier, well, coasts.
2024 Chevy Colorado
Base price: TBD, but 2023 starts at $30,695
Trims: WT, LT, TrailBoss (4WD only), Z71 (4WD only), ZR2 (4WD only)
What’s new? The Chevy Colorado was new for 2023, but it sees a couple significant changes for 2024 including a reduction of engine tunes and a bigger info screen for all trims. The other big change of note: The addition of the Bison edition.
2024 Ford Ranger
Base price: $34,160
Trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, Raptor (4WD only)
What’s new? The Ford Ranger enters its next generation for 2024 with a new body-style, higher-tech interior and two powertrains. The biggest news, however, is that 2024 is the year of the Ranger Raptor with Fox shocks, 33-inch all-terrain tires and cool exterior graphics.
2024 GMC Canyon
Base price: TBD, but 2023 starts at $38,395
Trims: Elevation, AT4 (4WD only), Denali (4WD only), AT4X (4WD only)
What’s new? Like the Colorado, the Canyon was new for 2023, so don’t expect any sweeping design or tech changes for 2024. The big news here is the addition of the super off-road capable AT4X AEV edition, which was revealed in July and we drove in October.
2024 Honda Ridgeline
Base price: TBD, but 2023 starts at $40,175
Trims: Sport, RTL, TrailSport, Black Edition
What’s new? The biggest change for the 2024 Honda Ridgeline includes the addition of a TrailSport model with an off-road suspension and all-terrain tires. But there are also a smattering of tech and design changes that give this truck a much-needed lift.
2024 Jeep Gladiator
Base price: TBD, but 2023 starts at $41,515
Trims: Sport, Sport S, Freedom, Willys, Rubicon, Rubicon X, Mojave, Mojave X, High Altitude, Rubicon FarOut
What’s New: The 2024 Jeep Gladiator gets a mid-cycle refresh with some exterior design tweaks and cool new tech as well as Mojave X and Rubicon X trims with more standard off-road goodies. The diesel powertrain is dropped, but the manual transmission remains. What it doesn’t get: a 4XE powertrain.
2024 Nissan Frontier
Base price: $31,265
Trims: S, SV, Pro-X, Pro-4X, SL
What’s new? The Nissan Frontier is one of the few midsize trucks that still offers a variety of bed and cabin options, which keeps it competitive without big changes. For 2024, it adds a retro Hardbody edition and a top-tier SL trim on the Crew Cab.
2024 Toyota Tacoma
Base price: TBD, but 2023 starts at $28,220
Trims: SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, Limited, TRD Pro, Trailhunter
What’s new? From the mini-Tundra design to the powertrains to the upgraded tech, pretty much everything is new on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. Additionally, you’ll see new cab/bed configurations as well as a super-cool off-roady Trailhunter trim. What’s not new: Tacoma keeps the manual transmission option for the next-gen.
What about a Ram 2024 midsize truck?
In a word: Nope. However, thanks to the UAW strike, we have recently received confirmation there will be a 2027 Ram midsize truck built in Belvediere, Ill. We don’t have much more information – not even a name – but now it’s been revealed it’s coming, we’re hoping Stellantis will take pity on us and dole out some details soon.
The bottom line
There is a lot going on in the 2024 midsize truck segment – from new tech to new trims to completely new trucks. Other than the glaring omission of midsize Ram truck, 2024 is going to be a great year to buy if you’re looking for a lot of options.
