The UAW announced a tentative agreement with Stellantis to end its 6-week labor strike and revealed a key new detail. A new midsize Ram truck is coming.

This announcement was made during a video on the UAW International Facebook’s page and confirms rumors we have been covering for some time.
New midsize Ram truck confirmed
The UAW stated they won back the Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant that was recently closed by Stellantis.
This plant built the Jeep Cherokee which was discontinued last year with faltering sales and Stellantis’s push to build more EVs.
Now the UAW has said the plant will not only reopen bringing back jobs to 5,000 people, but also build a new midsize truck.
What would the Ram midsize truck be like?
This news ties in with our three plus years of reporting on rumors like a Ram 1200 as a precursor. Those rumors have even included a spy photo and dealers clamoring for the truck. There were also suggestions the Ram Rampage could come to the U.S. to fill the hole in Ram’s lineup.
Also, Ram President Mike Koval said he showed off a concept to dealers in 2022 and he said they loved it. Then, radio silence. No pics of the concept and nothing new to report
With that said, I don’t know anything official about a midsize truck. I’d suspect it would have similar styling to the Ram 1500 and be offered with a small displacement turbocharged engine.
Also, there should be a crew cab (likely only cab offered), short or long bed and off-road capability since the rest of the industry has pivoted to offering those items in their products.
The bottom line
The UAW confirmation of a midsize truck was a “wait, what” moment for me. This is big news for Ram fans and dealers who have clamored for a smaller truck offering and now we just have to wait and see. Hopefully this won’t take another three years until a midsize Ram truck arrives.
