2024 honda prologue

Honda is moving full steam ahead on its 100% electrification plan by 2040 with the 2024 Honda Prologue as its first step. We’ll see a second electric SUV in 2025. But right now, Honda has just revealed more details – and photos – of this midsize electric SUV, so here’s what we know.

300 miles of range

The first question everyone always asks when discussing an EV is: How big is the range? Honda is targeting 300 miles of max range for the 2024 Prologue – and this will likely be on a base single-motor, two-wheel-drive model. Of course, the only specs we have are for the all-wheel-drive model, and the estimated power rings in at 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque.

The Prologue gets an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and will be capable of DC fast charging up to 155 kW. That’s enough to add 65 miles of range in 10 minutes.

Mid-$40k price tag?

Though we don’t have exact pricing yet, Honda has said the 2024 Prologue is “expected” to start in the upper $40k range – and that’s without any tax incentives. So, if you consider available incentives and destination fees, actual pricing will probably hit the mid-$40k range for the base 2WD model.

Keep in mind, pricing for the new three-row midsize 2024 Kia EV9 was just announced, and it’ll start at the mid-$55k. While the 2024 Honda Prologue is smaller than EV9, this pricing – if they stick to it – is very aggressive as well as competitive.

Tech galore

It seems you can’t have an EV without tech, and the 2024 Kia EV9 will have plenty of it. Think 11-inch digital gauge cluster, 11.3-inch Google-powered infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an available head-up display, available Bose premium audio, standard wireless charging and four USB-C charging ports. Additionally, with the Google built-in, maps will be able to optimize travel times as well as estimate charging time required to reach your destination as well as precondition the battery when your destination is a charging station.

Furthermore, as you would expect from a Honda, the Honda Sensing safety suite, which includes rear cross-traffic braking and blind-spot steering assist, is standard.

Co-developed with GM

Though the press release gives this a mere mention, the fact that the 2024 Honda Prologue is co-developed with General Motors is kind of a big deal. It will be built on GM’s Ultium platform, the same one we see in the GMC Hummer EV. Though not confirmed, it’s rumored that it will be built at GM’s Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, plant alongside the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox EVs.

The upcoming 2025 EV from Honda, however, will be built on Honda’s original e:Architecture platform.

3 trims, available early 2024

While full details aren’t available yet, we do have some preliminary specs, and we know the 2024 Honda Prologue will get three trims: EX, Touring and Elite. We also don’t have the exact launch date, other than “early 2024” – but that likely means somewhere between January and March.

The bottom line

With Kia and Hyundai already dipping their toes into the EV waters with attractive, affordable and successful vehicles, Honda has some stiff competition to meet. We’ll be very curious to see the 2024 Honda Prologue IRL, and we’re really excited to see that even though it was co-developed with GM, it’s keeping the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
