In a quick reversal, GM and Allison Transmissions have announced they will renew their brand partnership with 2026 GM HD trucks once again proudly displaying the Allison badge.

Last year, GM and Allison announced they didn’t reach a brand deal to extend their partnership going back to 2020.

GM said they were going to start shipping 2026 Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks without badging and dealerships were told to remove advertising by the Spring of 2026.

Today, GM has announced they have come to an agreement with Allison to put the badges back on the trucks.

GM issued this statement:

“We wanted to make you aware that GM and Allison Transmission have agreed to continue their longstanding collaboration, helping to produce capable and dependable HD trucks that our Chevrolet and GMC customers rely on. Soon, the Allison Transmission badge will be reintroduced to production of 2026 model year Chevy and GMC HD trucks.

As you know, GM and Allison have a long history of working together to develop tough, dependable transmissions. This agreement will reinforce to customers that Chevy and GMC HD Trucks are equipped with trusted, Allison-branded 10L1000 10-speed transmission that delivers the performance, capability and durability customers expect.”

Medium-duty trucks like the Chevy Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 have Allison-built transmissions.

Many critics thought this wasn’t related to the brand deal, rather it clearly had to do with the reputation of the 10-speed automatic transmission and the related rear wheel-lock up issue that was fixed with a new valve body.

Clearly, those critics were wrong. This was simply a business deal that needed more time to work out. Period.

I feel so validated from all the crap I took online last year. And I really think there are many channels out there that should take down their videos claiming Allison would NEVER sign up with GM again because of quality issues. What a load of BS!

lol....yep. So many are always betting on every rumor to come true hoping to cash in if they hit the lotto. Of course, if you try to call them on it they say their video helped change the minds of those involved. It's a win-win!

Yeah the car guy online trying to call you out was lame. Of course nobody has the data, but brand reputation accounts for a lot of sale and I don't see a company like Allison risking it unless the amount of money offered was ridiculous.

It's easy to be a hater...

I missed his comment until I was scrolling. I just shook my head and moved on. Clearly we will never see eye to eye. IMO - it certainly seems like he has an ax to grind on GM and Toyota. Good for him. I don't have room in my life for that much hatred.

When I research known issues with GM's transmissions, for example, I keep coming up with old data. I'm doing a video soon on it. I just finished looking at the latest NHTSA recall report and GM is nearly finished with the 2020-2022 recall and I've been on Facebook groups and Reddit all week. Nobody is really talking about it anymore. The ones that do pose a question and quickly met with the "it's been fixed" responses. How you could come to conclusion they are built to fail or are still failing when you see those responses.

Is the GM transmission fix for all trucks? I thought diesel and HD trucks were still waiting on a final fix.
