The 2027 Ram Power Wagon Cummins Diesel has been announced fixing a common miss from the brand with a unique plan for the customer to supply their own winch.
Cummins Diesel Comes to Power Wagon

The headline change is under the hood. The new Ram Power Wagon will be offered with the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel, producing 1,075 lb-ft of torque. This marks the first time Ram has paired its legendary off-road-focused Power Wagon with a Cummins diesel engine, a move long requested by customers.
Ram engineers confirmed the company is sticking with the 6.7-liter Cummins, dismissing online speculation about a larger displacement diesel replacing it. The diesel Power Wagon will also use a 3.42 rear axle ratio, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission designed to deliver strong low-speed torque without requiring extremely aggressive gearing.
Why the Factory Winch Is Gone?

One of the most controversial changes is what’s missing: the factory-installed front winch. According to Ram, the winch created challenges related to airflow, crash performance, and overall packaging—issues that became more pronounced with the addition of the diesel engine.
Rather than limiting the Power Wagon’s powertrain options, Ram chose to remove the winch entirely. Company officials say the decision allows customers flexibility, noting that aftermarket bumpers and winch solutions remain viable for owners who want them.
Suspension, Tires, and Payload Adjustments

To offset the added weight of the diesel—roughly 1,000 pounds more than the gasoline engine—Ram made several chassis changes. Unlike the gas-powered Power Wagon, the diesel version does not receive a factory lift. It retains the same 34-inch tire diameter but switches to higher-load-rated E-rated Goodyear Wrangler tires.
Despite the changes, Ram kept core Power Wagon hardware intact, including the electronic locking differential, Bilstein shocks, underbody protection, and five-link coil rear suspension. Ram claims payload is comparable to the gasoline version, with maximum figures approaching 3,000 pounds, though I suspect, real-world payload is expected to land closer to 2,500 pounds on dealer lots.
Capability, Pricing and On-Sale Timing

The diesel Power Wagon brings meaningful capability gains. Towing capacity is rated at nearly 20,000 pounds, and for the first time, the truck can be equipped with a fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep package, including automatic rear air suspension leveling. A 31-gallon fuel tank provides an estimated 600 miles of driving range—an important advantage for long-distance off-road travel.
Pricing is set at approximately $88,470 including destination, with the Cummins diesel adding roughly $12,000 over the gasoline model. Diesel exhaust fluid is required, consistent with current and upcoming EPA regulations. Ordering is expected to open in the second half of 2026. It joins other 2026 Ram HD models on sale.
The result is a Power Wagon that blends serious off-road hardware with Cummins diesel torque, giving owners the ability to tow heavy loads, travel long distances, and still hit the trail once they arrive.
