Chevy BrightDrop EV Delivery Van Dead

The Chevy BrightDrop EV delivery van is dead following the announcement production has ended and the plant is idled where it was built.

The Chevy BrightDrop EV delivery van was meant to be part of a new commercial van lineup for the automaker aimed at companies like Amazon, Fedex and others for so-called last-mile delivery service. This the last step on a delivery route for packages.

It was offered in a 400 and 600 starting at $64,600 or $66,100 respectively offering between 272 to 320 miles of range.

Inside the cargo van, it offered up to 614.7 cu ft of cargo space and had plenty of technology for driver and fleet management.

The van was built at the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario and had been on pause since May, 2025.

GM confirmed to various media outlets the van production will not be moved to another facility. The plant is currently idled meaning it is not building anything.

This move follows slower than expected demand for electric delivery vans, changing regulations and the loss of the key U.S. tax credits.

GM Canada President Kristian Aquilina stressed that the move was driven by overall market conditions, not the performance of the CAMI workforce. He added that GM continues to work with Canadian labor union Unifor and both federal and provincial governments to determine the facility’s future. Hourly employees impacted by the decision will receive six months of pay, along with lump-sum compensation and benefits.

During GM’s Q3 2025 earnings call, CEO Mary Barra confirmed the decision to halt production of the van.

“We have decided to stop BrighDropt production at CAMI assembly and assess the site for future opportunities,” Barra said. “This is not a decision we made lightly because of the impact on our employees. However, the commercial electric van market has been developing much slower than expected and changes to the regulatory framework and fleet incentives have made the business even more challenging.”

Despite shutting down BrightDrop, GM and Hyundai announced in August, 2025 an agreement to co-develop a smaller commercial van.

Not surprising. With the tariffs and the slowing demands for EV, I was waiting for that announcement.
