Neither the gas nor electric versions of the 2024 Ford F-150 have made it into customer hands just yet. The F-150 Lighting has a stop-sale order and the gas-model has been piling up in holding lots around Detroit since December.
According to an article from Automotive News, there’s no clear reason for the delays.
2024 Ford F-150 Lighting stop-ship order
The Ford F-150 Lightning can’t seem to catch a break. First, there was a production halt on the 2023 model because of battery fires. Then, Ford Motor Co. decided to cut production in half. Now there’s a stop-ship order. Automotive News said this order was issued on Feb 9 due to an undisclosed quality issue. The trucks are still being built, but there is no answer on when the stop-ship order will be lifted.

Furthermore, some 2024 Ford F-150 gas models seem to be sitting on holding lots rather than making their way to dealers – again for no clear reason. This is after a production halt due to a supplier issue in January. The Automotive News article cites a Ford spokesperson who said it’s standard procedure not to release products until they’ve undergone thorough inspections.
The bottom line
Ford Motor Co. is being typically mum about what’s going on here. So, all we know is trucks have been built, but trucks have not been delivered to customers. Are you affected by the stop-ship and holding patterns? Do you have any theories on what’s going on?

COULD it be that without any fanfare, in avoidance of embarrassment, Ford is finally addressing the 10-speed tranny issues that have plagued the F150’s for years? If so, it is worth the wait to avoid more lawsuits and recalls. Let’s get it right BEFORE they hit the lots!
