This is a new one. General Motors has released a fix for 2023 Chevy Colorado car wash dents to be fixed with stiffening patches. Yeah, patches to prevent dents.

First, let’s start with the idea car washes are denting new trucks. Apparently, there’s an issue with the dryer creating a dent like shown in the photo above provided to us by 2023 Chevy Colorado owner, Lindsey Bell.

General Motors has released Technical Service Bulletin 23-NA-209 to address this issue on the Chevy Colorado as well as the 2023 GMC Canyon. This was first reported by GM-Trucks.com, and while we couldn’t find a direct link to the actual TSB, we did find a copy of it on Reddit. The TSB reads:

“Condition: Some customers may comment on a [sic] oil canning or popping noise originating from the roof area during or after an automatic car wash.

Cause: The cause of the condition may be force from some air dryers at a [sic] automated car wash can cause flex in the roof panel, causing a loud oil canning type sound.

Correction: Repair any damage done during the event and apply stiffening patches to the underside of the roof panel following the procedure listed below.

The repair procedure is:  Once the roof is repaired of all damage, complete the following procedure to install stiffening patches to the underside of the roof panel.

  1. Drop the headliner, but do not fully remove from the vehicle.
  2. Once the headliner is dropped (but not removed), apply the five stiffening panels to the
underside of the roof panel in the RED locations in the illustration above.
  3. Once the panels are installed, reinstall the headliner.
  4. Verify the condition is corrected.”

GM dealers are instructed to use the following information for the repair:

  • Description: Patches
  • Part Number: 15828539
  • Quantity: 5

The bottom line

Time to hop in the bed and inspect your roof if you have one of these trucks. You’ll want to get this fixed ASAP since it can affect your resale value of the truck.
