When Ford Motor Co. revealed the 2023 Super Duty back in September, it didn’t have final specs available. Now the numbers are in, and Ford is throwing around “best-in-class” modifiers for power, payload and towing.
The new 2023 Super Duty offers a max torque of 1,200 pound-feet, max towing of 40,000 pounds and max payload of 8,000 pounds.
Power and tech seem to be the name of the game for the new Super Duty, which makes this truck a very good option for people who need to tow – and haul – heavy stuff.
Breaking down the towing on the 2023 Super Duty
The Super Duty lineup includes not only the F-250 but also the F-350 and F-450. And, of course, these numbers don’t apply to every truck. But here’s what you’ll see available (not standard) on the various trucks:
- Gooseneck towing of 40,000 pounds with F-450 pickup
- Gooseneck towing of 38,000 pounds with F-350 pickup
- 5th-wheel towing of 35,000 pounds with F-450 DRW pickup
- Conventional towing capacity of 30,000 pounds
- Conventional towing of 28,000 pounds with the F350 DRW
- Conventional towing of 25,000 pounds with the F350 SRW
- Maximum available towing of 23,000 pounds with F-250 Power Stroke diesel
- F-350 Tremor Off-Road equipped with the Power Stroke high-output diesel is rated at 23,000 pounds towing a gooseneck
- 3-liter V-8 gas F-350 DRW conventional towing of 22,000 pounds
- Maximum towing of 21,000 pounds for the F-350 gas Tremor Off-Road
Outside of towing, capability the Super Duty also has available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Smart Hitch, 360-Degree trailer Camera Package and turn-by-turn trailer navigation.
Power numbers
As we mentioned in the launch article, the 2023 Super Duty has four engine options: a 6.8-liter V-8, 7.3-liter V-8, 6.7-liter V-8 Power Stroke diesel, and a high-output 6.7-liter V-8 Power Stroke diesel.
Power specs are as follows:
- 6.8-liter V-8 gas: 405 horsepower, 445 pound-feet of torque
- 7.3-liter V-8 gas: 430 horsepower, 485 pound-feet of torque
- 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel: 475 horsepower, 1,050 pound-feet of torque
- High Output 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel: 500 horsepower, 1,200 pound-feet of torque
Proof is in the payload
As you probably already know, payload amounts to everything in the truck that isn’t the actual truck – that includes people, their beverages or any gear they may be hauling. So, when you get a truck that has 1,200 pounds of payload, you’re talking about four dudes and a few of their things.
So, when you’re talking about a max payload of 8,000 pounds – that’s a lot of dudes and their things.
In addition to this payload available on the F-350 DRW Regular Cab 4X2 XL trim with the Heavy Duty Payload Package, you get tech goodies such as available Onboard Scales, Tailgate Down Camera, Tailgate Down Reverse Park Aid and 2.0-kW Pro Power Onboard.
The bottom line on the 2023 Super Duty
Ford is bound and determined to make its heavy-duty truck the best heavy-duty truck out there. And, as of right now, they’ve ticked one in the win column. But as the Detroit Three are highly competitive, we’ll simply say stay tuned.
The 2023 Super Duty will be available in early 2023, with a starting price of $45,795 including destination fees.

So, potentially the Super Duty has a payload of 88 Ciminillos.
Pretty impressive.

LOL. Not sure you want that many Ciminillos all in one place. 😂
