2022 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra heated seats retrofit begins

Remember that time somebody in General Motors decided to cut the 2022 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra heated seats due to lack of microchips? Yeah, that chapter is finally closing. Thank goodness!

This news really heated up early in 2022 when all automakers were forced to make tough choices about new vehicles and features. GM decided to cut the 2022 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra heated seats along with a slew of other features during the past year. 

Now, our friends at GMAuthority.com are reporting a retrofit program has begun.

The news from GMA is that GM contacted affected owners once the parts are available. 

Once owners are notified, dealership technicians will install the heated/ventilated front seats, heated front seats and/or rear heated seats depending on what the truck was built to come with from the factory. 

Also, the vehicle’s body control module will be updated as well.

Still microchip shortages?

While this news is great for consumers looking to spend another winter or hot summer without the creature comforts of heated-and-ventilated seats, this doesn’t mean the microchip shortage has come to an end.

It is also possible, GM could cut other features while they still struggle to build trucks. 

For example, we recently tested a 2022 Chevy Silverado High Country without front and rear parking sensors. The button was there, but the feature didn’t work. Like the heated seats deletion, GM was offering a $50 price deduction at the time of purchase. 

The bottom line

Cutting heated seats in the middle of winter especially with regards to the northern U.S. and Canadian markets was always a head scratcher. Hopefully, they have enough of the right microchips to make this feature never be dropped again.
