Just a few weeks ago Publisher Tim Esterdahl was pretty sure he wouldn’t get a Tundra this year. He announced he’d be buying a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, and now he’s back with more news. The 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited won and here’s how he plans to outfit it.
Ordering a 2022 Toyota Tundra
Getting the order in now and hoping for delivery by December seems like a long shot with all the production delays we’ve seen recently, but Esterdahl is hopeful. He’s got his heart set on a Blueprint blue Limited edition with the TRD package. This will give him a few of the more premium features, such as 20-inch wheels, a TRD grille, Bilstein dampers, skid plates, mudguards, nicer seats and a TRD leather shifter. Esterdahl doesn’t have a firm price yet, but he is estimating the truck will come in around the $50k-$60k range, which is comparable to the F-150 he bought last year.
Gas not hybrid
Because the 2022 Toyota Tundra hybrid with the i-Force Max 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 hybrid engine won’t be available before the first of the year, Esterdahl will be getting the gas version of the Tundra with the i-Force 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine. This means 389 horsepower, 479 pound-feet of torque and a 12,000-pound towing capacity.
Features Esterdahl loves
- heated and cooled seats on the Limited edition
- composite bed
- console shifter
- nice steering wheel
- tons of drink holders and storage space
- voice recognition is great for handsfree driving
What’s it missing?
Esterdahl showed disappointment when he talked about a few features he wishes the truck would have. These include tow hooks and a power on-board generator like he had in the F-150 PowerBoost.
