More details have emerged for an upcoming 2027 Ram midsize truck thanks to leaks from a UAW guidebook for members.

This guidebook was meant for members prior to voting on an agreement between the union and the automaker, but it offers some interesting details on a new Ram midsize truck
2027 Ram midsize truck
It’s been no secret Ram has been working on a midsize truck for the last few years with a prototype being shown to dealers early this year. However, there has been no official confirmation.
Now, as the UAW document reveals, the midsize truck will be built at the Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant, and Stellantis, parent company of Ram, plans to invest $1.5 billion into the plant. It would also create more than 1,000 jobs.
The plan is to build up to 100,000 units per year at the facility. As a reference point, the best-selling midsize truck, Toyota Tacoma, sold about 216k units in 2022, and Ford Ranger sold about 56k units. So, somewhere in the 100k range makes sense for a new midsize truck from Ram. To start. Plus, there is a chance that this new Ram midsize truck could take the place of the Jeep Gladiator, which sells around 75k units a year and isn’t mentioned specifically in the UAW documents beyond a 2025 upgrade. However, the document also says midsize trucks (plural) will be built in Belvedere.
The name of the Ram midsize truck remains a secret at this time as well as many other details like powertrain, unibody vs body-on-frame and cab configurations. However, the Dakota name is well-known and a midsize Ram Rampage is available in other parts of the world. So, Dakota and Rampage are current front runners.
Finally, the timing means it will be late to challenge one of the freshest midsize lineups in recent memory with an all new Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier and even a refreshed Honda Ridgeline. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you see it.

The bottom line
As we’ve reported on rumors and tidbits of details over the years, it has almost seemed like a Ram midsize truck may never happen. Frankly, at some point, you report on a rumored vehicle long enough, you give up hope. Now with a $1.5 billion investment planned and confirmation of the truck coming soon, my excitement level is ramped back up. Just wish it wouldn’t take so long to get here.
And then there’s the question of a name. If you had a vote, would you vote Dakota or Rampage? Comment below.
