Twelve consecutive months of sales growth for the Tucson does not mean that Hyundai is resting on its laurels. Last week the Korean automaker revealed a refreshed version of their compact 2019 Hyundai Tucson SUV to crowds at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.
The Tucson comes with a number of upgrades starting at the nose where it has a new cascading grille, headlamp design and front fascia. As you work your way down the side, you’ll see new 18-inch wheels or redesigned 17- or 19-inch wheels, a redesigned exhaust finisher for top trims, and fresh taillight design.
Powertrain options have been refined since the previous iteration. The base model 2.0-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine achieves 164 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. The upgraded 2.4-liter, direct-injected four-cylinder engine attains 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft. of torque. Both are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the center stack has been redesigned, taking its cues from the new Kona. There is a new gauge cluster, new panel vent designs, a new rearview mirror, and different leather seats than in the previous year’s model.
The SUV also comes loaded with advanced safety technologies standard including forward collision-avoidance assist and lane keeping assist. A surround view monitor will make parking easy. Available smart cruise control with stop-and-go will be a win for drivers who use their Tucson for commuting. There’s also an optional driver attention warning.
In the 2019 Hyundai Tucson model, the SUV gets an electronic parking brake while high beam assist, rain-sensing wipers, a second row USB charging port, and Qi wireless charging are available. A 7-inch display audio touch screen has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. A shark fin antenna sits atop the car. Buyers get three years of complementary Blue Link Connected Car System services.
