What’s new for the 2022 Honda CR-V

In recent years Honda has not tinkered a lot with its successful compact SUV – the CR-V. And who can argue with them as the Honda CR-V was the second best-selling SUV of 2021 (trailing just behind the Toyota RAV4) and finishing fifth overall (behind the big three pickup trucks, which occupied spots 1, 2, 3).

For 2021 Honda sold 361,271 units for the CR-V (this number includes the CR-V hybrid, which was launched in 2019. As a big-volume vehicle, it’s rare to mess with success, and as such, this SUV hits the 2022 model year with no significant changes.

But, let’s update the information and see the trims and pricing for both the standard the CR-V and the hybrid version.

2022 Honda CR-V

There are five total trim options for the 2022 Honda CR-V with both all-wheel drive (AWD) and front-wheel drive (FWD). AWD is standard on the Touring trim for 2022.

There are no other significant changes for this model year. Here’s the trim, pricing and EPA breakdown for the entire lineup.

TrimMSRPMSRP Including $1,225 Destination ChargeEPA MPG city/hwy/combined
LX (2WD)$25,750$26,97528 / 34 / 30
LX (AWD)$27,250$28,47527 / 32 / 29
SE (2WD)$26,950$28,17528 / 34 / 30
SE (AWD)$28,450$29,67527 / 32 / 29
EX (2WD)$28,260$29,48528 / 34 / 30
EX (AWD)$29,760$30,98527 / 32 / 29
EX-L (2WD)$30,850$32,07528 / 34 / 30
EX-L (AWD)$32,350$33,57527 / 32 / 29
Touring (AWD)$35,550$36,77527 / 32 / 29

2022 Honda CR-V hybrid

Much like the gasoline version, not much has changed for the hybrid version of the CR-V. There are only three trim options for the hybrid version, EX, EX-L and Touring. Toyota has a PHEV version of the RAV4 called the RAV4 Prime, which is outstanding, so it’d be interesting to see Honda come up with a PHEV version and take the CR-V hybrid to that level.

Here’s the trim, pricing and EPA breakdown for the entire lineup.

TrimMSRPMSRP Including $1,225 Destination ChargeEPA City/Hwy/Combined
EX AWD$30,960$32,18540 / 35 / 38
EX-L AWD$33,550$34,77540 / 35 / 38
Touring AWD$36,750$37,97540 / 35 / 38

The bottom line on 2022 Honda CR-V

When a vehicle is as popular as the CR-V it’s easy for the automakers to update it so drastically and so regularly. As the saying goes, if ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Having sold more than 360,000 of these SUVs, clearly Honda has a winning formula. While we’d love to see some more significant changes (like why not a TrailSport edition of the CR-V?) to keep it modern and fresh, we certainly can’t argue with the CR-V’s success.
