The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee arrives with a new focus on performance and efficiency, led by an all-new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine.

Jeep’s most-awarded SUV returns in two- and three-row versions, along with the plug-in hybrid option, all under a simplified trim lineup. Beyond the new powertrain, the Grand Cherokee gets a revised interior, upgraded technology, and exterior refinements aimed at keeping it competitive in the crowded midsize SUV segment.

The most notable change for 2026 is the debut of Stellantis’ new global four-cylinder powerplant, the 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo. The engine produces 324 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque, giving it one of the highest power outputs per liter in its class—162 hp per liter. It replaces the previous base six-cylinder in some trims and provides an estimated range of 506 miles per tank while maintaining a class-leading 6,200-pound towing capacity.

Jeep engineers equipped the Hurricane 4 with “Turbulent Jet Ignition” technology, a system that ignites a small amount of fuel in a pre-chamber before channeling the flame into the main combustion area. This leads to a faster, more complete burn and improves both efficiency and emissions. A variable-geometry turbocharger ensures consistent torque across a wide range of engine speeds, with 80 percent of peak torque available from just 2,300 rpm. The Hurricane 4 will be built at Stellantis’ Dundee, Michigan, engine plant and this was recently announced as part of a $13 billion investment by the company.

Interior and Exterior Refinements

The 2026 Grand Cherokee’s updates extend beyond the engine bay. Inside, a new 12.3-inch infotainment system takes center stage, supported by available upgrades like a 10.25-inch passenger display, a McIntosh 19-speaker audio system, and the latest Active Driving Assist technology. The cabin also benefits from new materials and finishes, giving it a cleaner, more refined feel while improving user interface and convenience features.

On the outside, Jeep’s design team gave the Grand Cherokee a subtle facelift while maintaining its signature upright stance. The seven-slot grille has been reworked, headlights are slimmer and more modern, and the rear fascia has been reshaped for a more cohesive appearance. New exterior trim finishes and three new paint colors—Steel Blue, Copper Shino, and Fathom Blue—further freshen the look without straying from the Grand Cherokee’s traditional identity.

Simplified Trim Strategy

Jeep has streamlined the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2026 into three core trims: Laredo, Limited, and Summit. Each is positioned to meet distinct customer needs while offering more standard equipment than before.

The Laredo Altitude, which introduces the new Hurricane engine, comes with standard 4×4 capability, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, premium audio, and added safety features such as Traffic Sign Recognition and Intersection Collision Assist.

The Limited trim adds more comfort and style, including Silver Silk exterior accents, leatherette seating, heated second-row seats, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, and ambient interior lighting. Two optional packages—Limited Reserve and Limited Altitude—add high-end features like Nappa leather seats, ventilated fronts, darkened accents, and panoramic sunroofs.

The Summit trim remains the most luxurious version, equipped with Palermo leather upholstery, a suede headliner, massaging front seats, an upgraded McIntosh sound system, and the Quadra-Trac II 4×4 system with air suspension. Interior finishes in Oak and Liquid Chrome provide an elevated aesthetic that matches its premium feature set.

Options Galore

The 2026 Grand Cherokee lineup emphasizes flexibility. The standard Laredo retains the 3.6-liter V6 for those preferring a traditional engine, while a new Laredo X trim bundles popular comfort and convenience features such as heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a sunroof, and a wireless charging pad. Both include a wide range of standard safety technologies, including ParkSense rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, and automatic emergency braking.

The three-row Grand Cherokee L continues with the same simplified trim structure but gains third-row USB ports and more equipment as standard. It offers best-in-class second-row legroom and greater cargo space behind the third row than most rivals. The plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee 4xe returns in Limited, Summit, and Trailhawk trims. The Trailhawk remains the lineup’s off-road flagship, featuring a 470-mile driving range, a class-best departure angle, and 410 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is part of a major product rollout for the brand, joining the upcoming Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, and all-electric Recon. Production will continue at Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex’s Jefferson and Mack plants and pricing will be announced soon.

Set to arrive in late 2025, the refreshed Grand Cherokee blends proven off-road capability with modernized powertrains and technology. With the new Hurricane 4 Turbo under the hood, updated design touches, and simplified trims, Jeep aims to keep its flagship SUV relevant to both traditional enthusiasts and new buyers looking for efficiency without sacrificing power or practicality.
