A recall for 320K Jeep Wrangler 4XE and Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles has been announced. The battery may fail, leading to a vehicle fire.

2020-2025 Wrangler XE and 2022-2026 Grand Cherokee XE Models Affected

Just over 228K Wrangler XE models from 2020-2025 and almost 92K Grand Cherokee models from 2022-2026 are affected by the recall, which is caused by manufacturing faults in the high-capacity battery used in these models. Similar models are not affected. The faults may cause the battery to catch fire while driving or parked. Because the danger is lower when the battery has a low charge, Stellantis is advising owners not to charge the batteries until the issue can be fixed. Out of an abundance of caution, owners are also advised not to park near other structures or vehicles. No fix is currently available.

Chronology

On July 3, 2025, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation after receiving reports of fires originating from the HV battery in certain Jeep Wrangler PHEVs and Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEVs outside the scope of FCA US Recall ID 95B (NHTSA ID 24V-720) (“95B”), as well as reports of fires originating from the HV battery pack in vehicles which have received the 95B remedy. Samsung SDI obtained a battery pack from a vehicle which experienced a HV battery fire with cells manufactured outside the scope of 95B. After fully analyzing the battery pack, Samsung SDI determined the fire was caused by the same defect reported in the previous 95B campaign and has been working to identify additional factors potentially relating to root cause.

As of October 13, 2025, FCA US has received 9 reports of fires originating from the HV battery in Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles which have received the 95B remedy software. FCA US has determined the 95B remedy is ineffective at detecting certain abnormalities within the HV battery which may lead to a fire.

As of October 13, 2025, FCA US is aware of 10 fires originating from HV batteries which have cells manufactured outside the scope of 95B. Samsung SDI has stated the most likely root cause is separator damage combined with other complex interactions within the cell. FCA US and
Samsung SDI continue to investigate potential factors relating to root cause.

As of October 13, 2025, FCA US is aware of 19 customer assistance records, 0 warranty claims, and 19 field reports potentially relating to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from January 27, 2025, to September 2, 2025.

As of October 13, 2025, FCA US is aware of 1 injury and 0 accidents potentially related to this issue for all markets.

On October 24, 2025, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, a defect affecting motor vehicle safety potentially exists in all affected vehicles.
