2026 Toyota Tundra updated 1

The 2026 Toyota Tundra has been updated and it addresses some of the criticisms of the full-size truck while leaving other issues unchanged.

The first big change is in the luxury-trim 2026 Toyota Tundra Capstone trim level. This truck had a white interior. Yup, a white interior on a full-size truck. This interior was difficult to keep clean and that’s putting it mildly. For 2026 the interior will now feature a Shale Premium textured leather trim aka dark gray. It will still look luxurious and will require a lot less work to keep clean.

Toyota Tundra TRD Pro gets new seats

The off-road focused Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is going to make use of the new ISO Dynamic seats that have been available in the Tacoma TRD Pro. These seats made their debut in the Tacoma which came out after the Tundra. They are designed to keep the driver stable no matter what bumps you hit while off-road through using built-in shocks and they do work well.

The biggest issue is how deep the seats are in the Tacoma essentially making the crew-cab truck into a two-seat model instead of a four-seat model. With the Tundra, that won’t be an issue with the larger cabin.

Larger gas tank is now standard

For the past several years, the Toyota Tundra has been offered in two different gas tank sizes and that ends with the 2026 model year. All 2026 Toyota Tundra trucks will come standard with a 32.2-gallon fuel tank eliminating the 22-gallon tank.

The larger gas tank will cost more to fill up when empty, however, it will help you drive further on road trips and is especially handy when towing long distances putting more miles between stops.

New Wave Maker color for TRD Pro

The Wave Maker color is available on the TRD Pro and is this year’s unique color choice. This color looks like bright bubble gum in the sun and a dark blue in the shade.

Each year, the Toyota design team selects a new TRD Pro color to highlight this trim level.

TRD Rally Package Lift Kit and Tow Tech Package

The TRD Rally Package gets some new equipment to add to its capability First, the package can get the available TRD 3-inch lift kit raising it higher in the air allowing for larger wheels and tires.

Second, the tow tech package can be added providing Trailer Backup Guide, Straight Path Assist and an integrated trailer brake controller to the truck.

No fixes for known issues?

What about the other things people have been asking for? Those are TBD. (Photo courtesy Toyota)

Finally, what about the obvious misses like front recovery hooks for the off-road trucks? Or more rear-seat storage room where the hybrid battery sits? Or the list of issues 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra owners have had with seats, window trim and infotainment issues?

Those are either going to be solved by the aftermarket (check out these recovery hooks) or will be addressed in a more comprehensive update at some point in the future, maybe. Toyota fans can only impatiently wait until then.

I want to see the sales numbers with the lack of tow hooks.

I think they've been better since 2022 than they've been for quite some time. Maybe they're on to something! Drop the tow-hooks and have big engine recall seemed to work well.

What I didn't know realize is how many other truck brands don't have tow hooks on certain trims in their lineup like Ram.

Yep. I said it when everyone made a big deal about it back in 2022. My Ram "Sport" has none and it could not be optioned with them whatsoever. The front fascia has no openings to even mount them through. I would have needed to take a reciprocating saw to it.

No tow hooks is a sign that they don't make trucks for actual work, the new Toyota way.
As to Toyota and Kaizen I think those two have divorced and are fighting over who gets the kids on holidays.

I don't mind certain trims of trucks not having front tow hooks... but to make a TRD Off-Road, or a TRD Pro and not have them? Big miss. Not quite as big of a miss as not making the fancy seats an option on the Tacoma Pro. It's the first 4 door, 4 seat, 2 seater I've seen.

Yeah I started noticing that when I was shopping my new truck.
