A recent internal news bulletin is advising Toyota dealers running low on 0W-8 Oil for RAV4, Highlander and Hybrid SUVs to mix with heavier oil when doing oil changes.
Toyota Dealers Running Low on 0W-8 Oil and 0W-16

The news bulletin issued on April 30, 2026 advises dealers that Toyota and their supplier ExxonMobil may experience a challenges in meeting demand.
This bulletin reads:
April 30, 2026
TO: Toyota Parts and Service Managers
SUBJECT: Temporary 0W-8 & 0W-16 Oil Supply & Maintenance Guidelines
Toyota and our supplier ExxonMobil may experience challenges in fulfilling demand for Genuine Toyota Motor Oil (GTMO) 0W-8 and 0W-16 oils due to production and logistics constraints within the global petrochemical supply chain. While Toyota and ExxonMobil continue to work diligently to maintain supply, the following substitution guidelines are recommended for dealers to help manage the demand for the affected products. These measures may allow ExxonMobil to maintain a consistent service-level fill for dealers and help provide continued support for our guests.
TMNA recommends dealers follow these substitution guidelines one day per week for 0W-8 and one day every other week for 0W-16 or use the substitution percentages set forth below until further written notice. This approach is intended to temporarily reduce demand for both oil weights and support continued national supply.
Substitution Percentages:
• Reduce current 0W-8 demand by 20% by filling 20% of 0W-8 oil changes with 0W-16 GTMO.
• Reduce current 0W-16 demand by 10% by filling 10% of 0W-16 oil changes with 0W-20 GTMO.
Substitution Guidelines:
• Toyota Genuine 0W-8 motor oil can be substituted with Toyota Genuine 0W-16 for one service interval.
What Toyota vehicles are affected?

Many newer Toyota vehicles use 0-W8 and 0-W16 oil and these include:
0W-8 Toyota vehicles (U.S.)
These are primarily newer Toyota hybrids using the 2.5L A25A-FXS or newer-generation hybrid powertrains:
- Toyota Camry Hybrid (select trims/models)
- Toyota Corolla Hybrid
- Toyota Prius (manual transition appears delayed on some earlier print manuals)
- Toyota Crown Hybrid
- Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid with 2.5L hybrid
- Toyota Corolla in some applications
0W-16 Toyota vehicles (U.S.)
Toyota started broadly adopting 0W-16 around the 2018–2020 timeframe, especially on Dynamic Force engines.
Common U.S. Toyota vehicles using 0W-16 include:
- Toyota Corolla
- Toyota Corolla Hybrid
- Toyota Camry
- Toyota Camry Hybrid
- Toyota RAV4
- Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
- Toyota Highlander
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid
- Toyota Sienna
- Toyota Crown
- Toyota Prius
Toyota’s adoption of 0W-16 accelerated with the A25A and M20A engine families.
It is unknown how long this disruption will last.
