Best Truck Towing Mirrors 1

Do your truck towing mirrors suck? When shopping for a new 2026 truck, good towing mirrors should be at the top of your list then.

I did the hard work for you and created a detailed ranking of the best factory and aftermarket towing mirrors on the market.

Towing Mirrors: Why They Matter

The first thing instructors teach in driver’s ed is how to properly adjust your mirrors to clearly see around your vehicle. Adding a 30-foot tandem axle camper behind you requires even more visibility. As more consumers demand some sort of towing capabilities, automakers have responded with more options to increase visibility with a trailer in tow.

Whether you’re towing a fifth-wheel, a horse trailer, or a pair of jet skis, standard mirrors rarely provide the necessary field of view. Towing mirrors extend outward, offering enhanced visibility and safety. In this article, I will examine which towing mirrors work and which ones flat out suck for seeing around a trailer.

Not Offered: Nissan

When Nissan discontinued its Titan pickup truck after the 2024 model year, it also discontinued their towing mirrors. The Armada is the brand’s largest, body-on-frame vehicle, but this SUV does not offer towing mirrors.

Dead Last: Tesla Cybertruck

Features:

  • Single-post, motorized

Tesla is the newest entrant into the pickup truck market, if you consider the stainless steel dumpster a pickup, and therefore, I found it necessary to include it on this list. Much like the rest of the Cybertruck, its mirrors are more show than go. They match the angular design of the vehicle, but lack any substance for towing. Much like the interior, the features of the Cybertruck mirrors are minimalistic or just plain absent. Given the brand’s claims that it can tow up to 11,000 lbs., one would figure that Elon and his team would add a power extending towing mirror to see around a trailer, or at least a convex section for better visibility.

Fourth Place: Toyota Tundra/Sequoia

Best truck towing mirrors 4
The Toyota Sequoia towing mirrors are the same ones used on the Tundra and both leave something to be desired. (Photo by Cory Fourniquet)

Features:

  • Single-post, motorized telescoping feature
  • Dual-section glass mirrors with convex lower and flat, power-adjustable upper panels
  • Integrated cameras, exterior lighting and blind spot monitors add to the usefulness in all situations
  • Heated

Updated for the 2022 and 2023 model years, respectively, the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia have ditched their V8s for twin-turbocharged, hybrid V6 power. Maxing out at 12,000 and 9,520 lbs., respectively, these ½ ton offerings are no slouch. Available as an option on both the truck and SUV, the BSM Tow Mirrors are a basic offering to add additional visibility when towing a trailer. I tested a 2025 Sequoia TRD Pro, but these towing mirrors are the same ones offered for 2026 and on the Tundra as well. No matter the trim, you will be getting a plain, black plastic housing with dual mirrors.

The power upper portion of the mirror is flat, but motorized to give the driver their preferred view, which is tied to the memory seat settings. The lower convex mirror is manually adjustable but gives a wide field of view that may not need a lot of adjustment after they are put in place.

The Toyota towing mirrors find themselves near the bottom of the list for their simplicity of features and the fact that not all of their functionality is found in the same place. Power adjustability and power fold controls are found on the door, but the power telescoping feature is in a row of buttons over the driver’s left knee, along with the puddle lights and random functions like automatic high beams and heated steering wheel controls. The telescoping feature also only has two preset positions: out and in.

Third Place: Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra

The GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate sure makes a statement coming down the road. (Photo courtesy GMC)

Features:

  • Available on 1500, 2500 and 3500 models
  • Single-post, manual or motorized telescoping feature, depending on trim
  • Dual-section glass mirrors with convex lower and flat, power-adjustable upper panels
  • Optional integrated cameras, exterior lighting and blind spot monitors
  • Heated upper glass
  • All controls are located on the door panel

For the remainder of this list, we will be examining ICE pickup trucks from the major manufacturers. While Chevrolet and GMC do offer EV pickup trucks, their most capable towing mirrors are found on their ICE models.

The General Motors twins really pride themselves on the towing technology baked into all aspects of their pickup trucks, from the smartphone app that allows you to singlehandedly check the functionality of all trailer lighting to the fact that their Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance tech works with a trailer in tow.

When it comes to the towing mirrors specifically, GM adds to the offerings from Toyota. Available on 1500, 2500, and 3500 models, the basic towing mirrors, or Trailering Mirrors in GM-speak, are basic black plastic units with dual-pane glass featuring a convex lower section, integrated turn signals, exterior lighting, and manual fold and extending functions.

Higher trims, like the 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Denali Ultimate I sampled, have a flashier chrome cap, add perimeter and auxiliary lighting, and add power fold and telescoping functionality. Chevy and GMC both have all their mirror controls located in the same space on the door panel for ease of use and control visibility.

Second Place: Ford Super Duty

Best truck towing mirrors 6
The Ford Super Duty has a good set of towing mirrors, but it isn’t the best on this list. (Photo courtesy Ford)

Features:

  • Available on F-150 and Super Duty models
  • Dual-post, manual or motorized telescoping feature, depending on trim
  • PowerScope® trailer tow mirrors allow the driver to select how far the mirrors power telescope
  • Dual-section glass mirrors with convex lower and flat, power-adjustable upper panels
  • Optional integrated cameras, exterior lighting and blind spot monitors
  • Heated upper glass

Ford remains a leader in towing technology, especially with its Super Duty and F-Series trucks, adding features like onboard scales, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist.

Much like the GM offerings, the Ford trailer tow mirrors are available on F150 and Super Duty models. Base trailer tow mirrors are manual folding and manual extending, but are the only dual-post mirrors on the list.

Available on Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, the PowerScope mirrors add power folding and telescoping capability and are the first power telescoping mirrors that allow you, as the driver, to select just how far the mirrors extend.

First Place: Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500

Features:

  • Available on 1500, 2500, and 3500 models
  • Single-post motorized telescoping feature
  • Driver-selectable telescopic positioning
  • Dual-section glass mirrors with flat, power-adjustable upper panels and power-adjustable convex lower panels
  • Built-in “Trailer Reverse Guidance” cameras with split-screen infotainment display
  • Heated upper glass

The big news for Ram in 2026 is the return of the HEMI V8 and the improved warranties. Ram leaders owned up to the mistake of removing the HEMI V8 from the lineup in favor of the more powerful and efficient Hurricane inline-six cylinder engine, and therefore brought the HEMI back with thunderous applause.

The 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty is the best in the segment as well, leaning into how long Ram acknowledges that their customers keep their pickups.

The Trailer-tow Group option, which includes the best towing mirrors of the segment, is available on Ram 1500 models, while the telescopic trailer tow mirrors are standard on Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 models.

Ram offers all the same features as the other automakers on this list, but brings a couple of class-exclusive features as well. With all the mirror controls located conveniently on the door panel, the Ram trailer tow mirrors are the only ones to offer power-adjustable lower convex mirrors.

Another standout feature involves technology and built-in cameras. While all the entries on this list offer 360º camera visibility, Ram has cameras placed specifically for their Reverse Guidance with Split-Screen view. These cameras are located on the exterior bottom corner of the mirror housing, next to the convex mirror, and can display a live feed in split-screen onto the large 14.4-inch infotainment screen in the center of the dash. Pair this with Trailer Reverse Steering Control and the Ram mirrors clearly win this comparison by a trailer’s length.

Aftermarket Options

There are aftermarket options as well you can add to your truck. (Screenshot by Cory Fourniquet)

While pickup truck manufacturers continue to duke it out over who has the most useful features for towing a trailer, that does not mean older pickups or vehicles without towing mirrors are out of luck entirely. The automotive aftermarket has a vast array of towing mirror options for any type of vehicle.

You can easily get lost in all the aftermarket options available, but Amazon makes it pretty easy to find a mirror that will work for you with their vehicle-specific search function. There are universal fit options and tailor-made options for specific models/trims.

Universal Mirror: CIPA 11950 Clip-On Towing Mirror, Black & Silver, 15.75 Inch

This clip-on towing mirror is available in black and silver. (Screenshot by Cory Fourniquet)

Keeping it affordable and simple, this 15.75-inch clip-on mirror should be an easy addition to any vehicle. Adding a large, manually adjustable mirror to the outside of the factory mirror gives a wider field of view.

Buy it on Amazon.com.

Model-specific Clip-on: K SOURCE Snap & Zap Custom Fit

You can also find vehicle specific options as well. (Screenshot by Cory Fourniquet)

Giving a more factory look without the complexities of wiring or detailed installation, these vehicle-specific options will cost more but will stand out much less if style is important to you.

Buy it on Amazon.com.

Cory did this story and video. He has his own channel and it shows. I bought this freelance story from him since I thought it was a solid story idea.

Here is the short video he did.

I just purchased a 2026 Silverado 1500 off the lot, which had standard mirrors. The dealer assured me they would install towing mirrors once I purchased the vehicle, but now 3 months later, they are still unable to get them from GM. I've contacted corporate and they say that accessory is not available for my vehicle, even though instructions on how to operate these mirrors are in the owner's manual. Why would a truck company build a truck with a hitch and brake controls, but not provide the mirrors necessary to actually tow a trailer?? Was the truck in your survey a 2026? If not, do you know the last year these mirrors were available for the Sliverado 1500?

That was a 2026 model. I pulled up the build and price tool on Chevrolet.com and found the towing mirrors listed as an option. You may try to put in your exact model and trim level to see if it pops up as an option.

A lot of times it's the wirings and controls, not the fitment. If the truck wasn't setup for the heated power adjustable it doesn't matter if the part would bolt on. I've heard this when trying to go from a lower trim to the mirrors that come on a higher trim.

The large mirrors are great if you are towing wide boxy trailers. But Ram must have gotten a lot of complaints because they have separated their Dumbo-ear towing mirrors from the towing package. Now, you can get the towing package with brake controller, rear-steering, and trailer TPMS without the big mirrors. They can be had separately but are required for the auto-hitch system. I'd prefer that as the first time I drove a new one, those mirrors blocked too much view to the left and I don't need them when towing my 7' wide trailer.

I looked at installing factory tow mirrors on my 2022 tundra since I bought it used and it was impossible to find one with the tow mirrors. It was $6000. $3000 for the mirrors and wiring, another $3000 for the labour since you need to install a bunch of new switches and electronics in the truck while reprogramming everything.

Needless to say, I’m still rocking the non towing mirrors.
