2020-2021 Ford Super Duty Recall

A steering column defect is affecting more than 115,000 2020-2021 Ford Super Duty trucks which could lead to a loss of steering control.

This recall is now the 112th recall so far for Ford this year and doesn’t top our list of the biggest ones.

2020-2021 Ford Super Duty Recall

The recall notice posted on NHTSA.gov states:

NHTSA ID Number: 25V626000

Manufacturer Ford Motor Company

Components STEERING

Potential Number of Units Affected: 115539

Summary

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2021 F-250, F-350, and F-450 vehicles. The steering column upper shaft may detach from the steering column and result in a loss of steering control.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect the steering column, and repair or replace the upper shaft as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed October 6, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated December 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S94. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 23, 2025.

Chronology of the issue

On June 26, 2025, an issue pertaining to Ford Super Duty steering column upper shaft separations was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) for review.

In July and August 2025, Ford reviewed upper shaft design history. The part history shows a single primary staking for anti-pull apart force was utilized from the start of 2020 model year until February 2021, when a second staking was added to the upper shaft hard slider design. Ford also assessed customer claim history and observed all known reports occurred on vehicles manufactured in March 2020 or earlier. Ford and the supplier then analyzed manufacturing data and determined a correlated shift in primary staking load and depth occurred and prior to this manufacturing change, the pull-apart load was much lower. Ford completed a Chi-Square analysis to confirm the statistical significance of the concentration of reports, which determined a difference exists in parts manufactured after March 2020.

Ford also assessed pull apart force data on upper shafts built in both timeframes via a Weibull analysis and confirmed a higher pull apart force capability exists on shafts manufactured after March 2020.

Ford’s team reviewed supplier process and maintenance records to determine the population of affected parts and determined that the total population of suspect upper shafts were assembled into vehicles at Kentucky Truck Plant prior to October 1, 2020.

As of September 11, 2025, Ford is aware of three (3) VOQs, seven (7) warranty claims, three (3) field
reports and four (4) customer call hotline reports potentially related to this concern. These reports were received between September 15, 2020, and April 7, 2025, and represent eleven (11) unique VINs.

On September 12, 2025, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field
action.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

I briefly read about a Ford Ranger recall having to do with side airbags but it was a headline and I didn't get far into the article to see when this actually happened. When I went back to read it my screen refreshed and it was gone.

Is that new?

It’s new, it came out last week or the week before. There’s a stop sale because of it.

For ****'s Sake.

I think we should start celebrating Ford weekly when they don't have a major recall.

We might have to wait for a while lol. They are at 112 recalls and we’re 3/4 of the way through the year.

I find it totally unbelievable that Ford would have a recall.

In the vein of Ben Hardy, my Ford F250 is a failed turd and I’m going to have to get rid of it. The battery died yesterday after 35 months. Pure garbage. Ford did replace it with a new one and it’s working perfectly fine, but I need some manufactured crisis and drama for my next video. 🙂

FYI - there were 3 new Ford recalls today. I didn't create posts for any of them since they were all for recalls under 100 vehicles in total. Just didn't want to disappoint those who were thinking Ford didn't have a recall when the NHTSA newsletter came out today.
