2025 Ford Expedition sales

In a shocking result, the new 2025 Ford Expedition posts best sales result in 20 years, beating its old rival, the recently refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe.

2025 Ford Expedition posts best sales in 20 years

The second quarter of 2025 sales results show the new Expedition posting a whopping 43.9% increase in sales year over year with 31,298 vehicles sold besting last year’s 21,747 vehicles.

Ford says this sales result was the best second quarter result the Expedition has had in 20 years, going all the way back to 2005.

For the year, it is up 3.4% with 44,780 vehicles sold.

This quarter is the first one where the new 2025 Ford Expedition was on sale with its new exterior, interior design including the new interior dash and split rear tailgate as well as the new Tremor model amongst other things.

Beating Chevy Tahoe

In a tight race, the new Ford Expedition even knocked off its old rival for the quarter with about 1,000 more SUVs sold.

The recently refreshed with the expanded availability of the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine, improved seat comfort, redesigned interior and several other changes had its own increase of 20.5% vehicles sold year-over-year.

However, the final amount was 30,268 SUVs putting it just shy of the Ford Expedition.

Combined with its GMC Yukon teammate of 24,688 SUVs, the GM full-size SUVs bested the Expedition.

Our take

Growing up in Michigan, I recall seeing a lot of Chevy Tahoe SUVs and very few Ford full-size SUVs. Now in my current profession, I can’t recall many times I’ve seen the Ford Expedition have this much sales success, and topping the Tahoe is an eye opener.

Also eye opening, is the fact these large SUVs sold at such an impressive rate with higher gas prices, interest rates and the current economic uncertainty.

Ford’s employee pricing strategy likely brought in people to the sales lot, but the 2025 Ford Expedition was excluded from sale. The 2024 model wasn’t. Talking with various Ford salespeople, leftover 2024 models did sell, but just as many or more 2025 models sold as well. One drive of the new model and people were hooked.

Hmm. Sound like Chevy needs to update the Tahoe.

Also, could it be the lack of Apple Car play and Android Auto leading the change.? 🤔

I might have missed this, but aren't they coming with Apple Car Play and Android auto since they have ICE propulsion?

The Expedition includes the Expedition Max because you know, Ford number games. Whereas the Tahoe doesn't include the Suburban. Nor does the Yukon include the Yukon XL.

Add this whole segment together as it should be and GM still dominates with similar market share as most other years. I think around 60% with Ford around 20ish%.

We have a 2020 Expedition Max Limited and picked it over the GM twins. For one really weird reason, visibility out of the third row. The C pillar in the Yukon and Tahoe are so huge they block out the complete view of anybody sitting in the third row. (Jill routinely misses this aspect in her 3rd row comparisons) We drove an Expedition just to try it and then went to try the Yukon and the kids asked if they could go sit in it. The two younger kids who are relegated to the third row hated it. It's really bad.

It comes standard with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. It also comes with a in-vehicle wireless hotspot.
