A Jeep awning and rooftop tent concept was shown at Overland Expo West as an overlanding solution designed exclusively for the four-door Wrangler.
Jeep awning rooftop tent concept
Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar created the concept in collaboration with Dometic, a leader in mobile living products, the awning and rooftop tent (ARTT) concept “reimagines the traditional rooftop tent by integrating a premium, lightweight and aerodynamic design” according to a press release. The system combines both a 270-degree swing-out awning and an inflatable rooftop tent into a single carbon-fiber shell that mounts directly to the Wrangler’s roof with no bulky rack required.
With rooftop tents growing in popularity among off-road and overland enthusiasts, Jeep and Dometic sought to solve common complaints about added weight and poor aerodynamics. The result is a sleek, low-profile shell that houses Dometic’s AIR Frame Inflation tent technology and includes enough interior space to accommodate a queen-size mattress.
One of the ARTT’s standout features is interior access—campers can climb into the tent from inside the vehicle through the Wrangler’s removed freedom panels, aided by an integrated carbon-fiber step that protects the center console. The entire setup stows compactly into the carbon-fiber shell for efficient storage and minimal drag while driving.
“The lightweight and compact JPP Awning and Rooftop Tent concept is the perfect accessory for adventure-seeking Jeep Wrangler owners, whether they are overlanding across long distances or decide to go on a spur-of-the-moment quick weekend getaway,” said Mike Koval, senior vice president and head of sales operations, Jeep brand. “We’re excited to see consumer reaction at Overland Expo West to our newest innovative concept for our enthusiast Jeep brand customers.”
The ARTT concept makes its public debut mounted atop the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser concept, a solar-inspired, two-tone off-road machine that first appeared at the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Outfitted for serious multi-day expeditions, the Sunchaser showcases a suite of conceptual gear that pushes the limits of overland capability.
Jeep has not announced plans for production, but if crowd response in Flagstaff is any indication, the ARTT could mark the next evolution in mobile adventure gear.
Our take
Getting their own products into overlanding is a smart business move. This segment continues to be a growing market with more people looking for a break from normal life.
