Sources say that the next-gen Ford F-150 is delayed and won’t debut until mid-2028.
Next-gen Ford F-150 delayed
Crain’s Detroit Business reported the redesign coming for the 2027 Ford F-150 will now be a 2028 model debuting mid-year.
This push back was confirmed from suppliers who received notice the redesign was being pushed back.
The 14th generation of the Ford F-150 is currently on sale and it was updated for the 2024 model year with a new tailgate option that has a door in the middle of it. They also introduced the Platinum Plus trim level with even more luxury, the STX package became an entry-level off-road trim, a modular front bumper to allow customers to easily attach accessories and they expanded the availability of the PowerBoost aka hybrid powertrain as well as dropped the price to be even with other engine choices.
It is unknown what exactly the 15th generation of the Ford F-150 could have coming since Ford has been aggressive in updating its flagship truck over the last several years. At the very least, there will be new styling for the front and rear to separate it from other generations. The interior will see a refresh as well.
Ford will likely also have some new towing technology up its sleeves since that’s been a focus for Ford engineers for the last few years.
The powertrains will likely stay the same. However, I’d expect the 10-speed transmission to be updated. It has had a rough go with customer complaints piling up on it with harsh shifting being the primary complaint.
Our take
While delays have been the norm for the last 5 years, especially with EVs, it is odd to see a best-selling Ford model like the F-150 being delayed. There is likely a very good reason for the delay that forced them to make this decision.
