Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis returns

Former Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis returns effective immediately according to the company. The guy who created the brand’s biggest hits is back.

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis returns

It was just 7 months ago that Kuniskis said he was heading into retirement after a 32-year career. That sudden announcement was a shock for many with several new Ram trucks on the way, including the Ram 1500 RHO, a new Ram HD trucks, Ram 1500 Ramcharger extended range EV (EREV) and the Ram REV fully electric model.

Now, he is back in charge effective immediately.

Stellantis said Christine Feuell, who had been running Ram and Chrysler, will now lead Chrysler and Alfa Romeo in North America. Larry Dominique, leader of Alfa Romeo in North America, is leaving the company. Jeff Kommor will lead North American sales.

What changed?

Why did this happen? All signs point to a shake-up at the top, with last weekend’s surprise announcement of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares’s immediate resignation.

For the last few years, Tavares had shaken things up at the automaker with several on the board citing his behavior as alienating to people.

With his resignation, the Board of Directors announced a new interim CEO who had been in talks with Kuniskis almost immediately according to a popular Stellantis-focused YouTube channel TK’s Garage.

What may happen?

Questions are going to be swirling about this news including will Kuniskis bring back:

  • A V-8 engine
  • TRX supercharged truck
  • Classic 1500 – prior-gen truck with a lower price

It is likely all these things are going to be on the table.

What do you think? What should he do?

This is great news, but enter the killjoy: While I know a lot of enthusiasts would like to see a V-8 engine return or a supercharged TRX, I think that ship has sailed. The ship was pulling away from the pier before Kuniskis retired, and with product planning cycles the way they are, I don't think it's changing course now. <insert sad trombone>

Gotta agree. Changes like that are planned years in advanced.
