MotorTrend Awards Chevy Colorado truck of the year

The all-new Chevy Colorado was named MotorTrend’s 2024 Truck of the Year giving the midsize truck the coveted award for the third time in the last eight years.

This award is one of the top honors among the automotive media along with the North American Car and Truck of the Year award which Managing Editor Jill Ciminillo is a juror.

What did MotorTrend really like about the Chevy Colorado to beat out the 13 contenders?

They liked the new interior, off-road performance and especially the ZR2.

“The Colorado lineup’s performance on- and off-road, particularly the ZR2’s prowess, is nothing short of exceptional, rivaling even some of the most revered off-road vehicles available,” said Ed Loh, MotorTrend Group head of editorial. “Earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year award is a testament to the Colorado’s all-encompassing excellence across various terrains and utility needs.”

This competition focuses on six key categories including safety, advancement in design and performance for the intended function.

This list might leave you with a bunch of questions such as where is the 2024 Ford Ranger? Or the 2024 Toyota Tacoma? Both of those trucks missed the deadline to enter the competition.

Ok, how do you get 13 trucks when there are only 7 vehicles listed above? The answer is more than one version of the trucks were provided for testing.

The bottom line

Truck of the year awards help consumers know which models journalists really liked and are big a deal for automakers who use the awards in various marketing campaigns.

I was also a big fan of the Chevy Colorado and I see this as a deserving award.
