Late last week, TFL EV shared some leaked 2023 Tesla Cybertruck information it received from an inside source. This included some photos as well as preliminary specs. While the specs are unconfirmed, if they are correct, the Cybertruck is smaller than we thought it would be and has less capability than originally promised.

So, here’s what we (think we) know about the 2023 Tesla Cybertruck.
Is the Tesla Cybertruck smaller?
Before Tesla took the Cybertruck off its website in 2021, it had listed some preliminary specs — among those was bed length, which was supposed to be 78 inches long. But in the leaked specs, the overall bed length has dropped to 72.8 inches. Looking at the height, width and length specs, it appears that the 2023 Cybertruck will be smaller than a full-size truck, but not quite as small as a midsize.
- Overall length: 18.6 feet
- Overall width (no mirrors): 79.9 inches
- Overall height (medium setting): 70.5 inches
- Wheelbase: 143 inches
Less towing, capability than promised
Going back to the original specs shared on the Tesla website, the Cybertruck was supposed to have a max towing capacity of 14,000 pounds – which would have bested every current electric truck – as well as all the full-size gas-powered trucks. But the leaked specs show the Tesla Cybertruck will only have a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. While payload specs weren’t among the leaked intel, we have to assume with the reduced towing capacity, a max payload of 3,500 pounds is now off the table.
Also interesting to note, Tesla had previously said the Cybertruck would be a six-passenger vehicle, yet TFL EV is speculating it’ll likely max out at four.
We’d also like to point out that at 7.1 cubic feet, the cargo volume of the Cybertruck is half of the Ford F-150 Lightning’s frunk.
One other thing the leaked information from TFL EV shows is an inverter system in the truck bed that shows two 110-volt plugs and one 220-volt. More information on those plugs and how they operate is, well, TBD.

So, when is Tesla Cybertruck really on sale?
In theory, we should start seeing the Tesla Cybertruck on public roads driven by actual owners by the end of November. The Cybertruck Twitter account (we refuse to call it X), states there will be a “delivery event” on November 30, 2023. This is when the first deliveries are scheduled at Giga Texas, but it’s unclear if that means one truck will be delivered or 100.
When will we start to see the Cybertruck in volume on the streets? TBD.
The bottom line
While these specs do jib with what we’ve heard about the Tesla Cybertruck being smaller, we will state again, they are unconfirmed. And we have no idea when we’ll get any real information from Telsa. Right now, you can pre-order a truck on the Tesla website for $100, but there is no pricing or spec information listed. Plus, all the photos on the website are pre side mirrors and windshield wipers (as are the photos in the gallery below), so that means it’s old stuff, and we have no actual photos of the real truck. So, TBD, TBD.
