2023 Easter Jeep Safari vehicles showcase JPP, electrification and throw-back styling

Jeep likes to test the limits of what’s possible during its annual pilgrimage to Moab, Utah, and the 2023 Easter Jeep Safari is no different with electrifying rock crawlers and retro mods. Here’s a quick look at the seven concepts revealed for this year.

Jeep Wrangler Magneto 3.0

This is the third iteration of the popular Magento concept that we first saw in 2021 and then again in 2022. Magento 3.0 is still all electric but it boosts usable energy and range and a more efficient motor. Two big changes include two-stage power regeneration and aggressive hill-descent control with one-pedal off road driving.  Another big update allows the driver to chose between two power settings: a standard 250 horsepower/273 pound-feet of torque and a max 650 horsepower/900 pound-feet of torque.

Jeep Scrambler 392

This concept is a modern-day take on the 1981 Jeep Scrambler (CJ-8) with the power of a Wrangler 392. In addition to the 6.4-liter, 470-horsepower Hemi engine, this two-door truck adds the AccuAir suspension kit with an adjustable lift from 1.5 to 5.5 inches, 40-inch tires, Sublime green paint and blue plaid seat inserts.

1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe

This resto-mod concept takes the ’70s-era SJ Cherokee in all its retro glory and adds the modern Wrangler 4xe plug-in powertrain. The 2.0-liter, 4-cylidner engine is mated to two electric motors and a high-voltage battery pack. It is equipped with 37-inch tires, 17-inch “slotted mag” style wheels, a four-point safety cage and a full-size spare tire.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe

The tough-as-nails Happy Days character, Pinky Tuscadero, would be proud of this rugged pink fuel-sipping Wrangler concept. In addition to the 4xe powertrain, the Rubicon 4xe adds the AccuAir suspension kit, 37-inch tires, 17-inch gloss-black AEV wheels and a Warn Zeon winch. The fuschia Tuscadero paint is punctuated by gloss-black accents and a custom hood graphic.

Grand Wagoneer Overland

Cashing in on the ever-popular overlanding trend, this Grand Wagoneer Concept takes the comfortable cruising three-row SUV to the next level. Equipped with the new 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo 510-horsepower engine, we see a lot of interior and exterior amenities added. This concept adds a custom RedTail Overland Skyloft, which unfolds in 10 seconds, by removing the second- and third-row seats and repositioning the rear sunroof to add a pass-thru entrance. The Grand Wagoneer Overland comes equipped with sleeping space for two in the loft, a truck-bed-lined cargo floor, interior creature comforts and 35-inch wheels that add a natural 1.5-inch lift to the vehicle.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Departure

Using the Wrangler 4xe as its basis is chockful of conceptual items from Jeep Performance Parts. Notable additions to this concept include 17-by-18.5-inch Vintage Bronze KMZ Impact OL wheels, 37-inch BF Goodrich tires, a JPP 2-inch lift kit, Bilstein performance shock absorbers and Warn winch. In addition to flat fender flares and wheel liners built to accommodate larger wheel and tire combos, you’ll see JPP additions like tube doors, all-weather cargo mats, stainless steel pedal covers, door grab handles and heavy-duty vinyl flooring system.

Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Sideburn

This concept in Solar Flash Yellow is an exercise in new tools designed for off-road adventures. You’ll see this Gladiator sporting a JPP 2-inch lift, black HRE 17-by-9-inch FT1 six-spoke wheels, 37-by-13-inch BF Goodrich tires, a custom tubular grille that folds down into a bumper bench, removable 11-inch TYRI rectangular LED lights on the roof panels, a concept JPP Sport Bar with a mid-shelf and Integral RotoPaX containers for liquid storage.

The bottom line on the 2023 Easter Jeep Safari

While it’s a good bet that we probably won’t see any of these vehicles show up in dealers any time soon, Jeep has surprised us in the past. (Cue the 392). These are more likely a glimpse into what could be as well as accessories you can buy now to beef up your own Jeep.
