ford raptor r fuel economy

Ford Motor Co. recently (and finally) pushed out the Raptor R fuel economy numbers, and while they aren’t great, they are better than the Ram TRX. Ish.

This supercharged mega truck will get 10 MPG in the city and 15 MPG on the highway with a combined rating of 12 MPG. Since the TRX also gets a 12 MPG rating, where’s the difference? The Raptor R manages to eke out 1 MPG better in the fuel economy arena on the highway.

I know, BFD. But in the truck wars, every MPG seems to count.

Raptor R vs. TRX revisited

We’ve previously done a detailed comparison of the Raptor R vs the TRX, so I won’t belabor all the details here. But we do want to point out both trucks require premium fuel (even though the fueleconomy.gov website says it doesn’t – we confirmed with Ford directly), so you’re going to be spending a pretty penny on fueling up both beasts.

Though, you’ll spend more at a time on the Raptor R because it has a 3-gallon larger fuel tank.

Raptor R fuel economy worth $30k?

Now, obviously there’s more than fuel economy that makes Raptor R the more expensive. Things like the extra ground clearance, larger tires, higher max towing capacity and extra payload all play into that.

But still, $30k? Gulp.

The bottom line

Only you, the buyer, can decide if it’s worth it. While Publisher Tim Esterdahl might argue for the Raptor R, I’m still a TRX girl at heart because extra horsepower. Oh, and hilarious hidden design Easter eggs.

But maybe that’s me. How about you? Are you #TeamRaptorR or #TeamTRX? Comment below to vote.
