During its Jeep 4xe day, the brand revealed its electrification strategy as well as the first all-electric vehicle to arrive in the U.S.: The Jeep Recon.
We have few details and even fewer photos of this all-new vehicle. We donāt even know the intended model year for the Jeep Recon. But since Jeep said itās going to launch four all-electric SUVs in North America and Europe by 2025, and it will go into production in 2024, weāre going to assume itās a 2025 model year.
So, what do we know?
Part Wrangler part Renegade
From the styling, we see a lot of both the Renegade and the Wrangler. Though we donāt have any specs, the overall design of the Recon channels its inner Renegade but with a slightly elongated wheelbase. Then it has the removable doors a la Wrangler.
Plus, according to Jeep, this electric SUV will be able to cross the Rubicon Trail ā with enough range at the end to drive back to town and recharge.
What does that mean for range?
Well, considering the Rubicon Trail is 22 miles long but takes experienced off-roaders 5 hours to complete ⦠yeah, we have no idea what that means. Jeep mentions nothing about Recon range. At all.
All we do know is that it is designed from the ground up to be 100% electric.
Considering that standard-range batteries tend to ring in around 220 miles and the long-range batteries come in around 300 miles, well, itās probably somewhere in there.
Jeep Recon goodies
Among the very few details we have on the Jeep Recon, we know it will get the Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-locker axle technology, underbody protection, tow hooks and off-road tires.
Plus, in addition to removable doors, the Recon will get a one-touch power top and removable glass. And, of course, it will get the latest version of Uconnect, which will include travel guides of notable trails.
The bottom line on the Jeep Recon
So, what do we know about the Jeep Recon? Itās coming in 2024. Itās electric. Itāll have the legendary Jeep capability.
But youāll have to wait until sometime in 2023 for more details on things like range and power specs. Youāll probably have to wait until 2024 for pricing.
