Yep, that tiny gray spec amid those red rock mountains is a heavily camouflaged 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport.
In the briefest press release I’ve ever seen, Honda released this photo with a one-line explanation: “The most rugged and capable Honda SUV ever is coming soon to round out the year of the SUV. #HondaPilot”
So, we know TrailSport is coming have no other specific details. Kind of.
Here’s what we do know:
Built in Alabama
When Honda announced the production of the refreshed 2022 Passport back in December, it clearly stated both the Passport TrailSport and Pilot TrailSport would be built at the Alabama Auto Plant. In fact, these SUVs will be exclusively built in Alabama.
Standard AWD
Since the Pilot is essentially the 7-passenger twin of the 5-passenger Passport, we can look at the Passport TrailSport to glean a few details about the 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport. First and foremost, it will get Honda’s i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system as standard fare. The track width will also increase – probably by 10 mm per Passport spec – to improve stance and stability.
We’ll likely also see the same 18-inch wheels and rugged 30-inch tires with sidewall tread.
TrailSport design elements
In addition to the new TrailSport logo, we’ll likely see a unique grille treatment, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, skid plates and gloss black Pilot badging (instead of chrome). On the inside, expect orange accents, amber interior lighting and the TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat head rests.
The bottom line on the 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport
The Honda Pilot TrailSport will be another vehicle cashing in on the outdoor lifestyle trend spawned by the pandemic. It’ll be a vehicle that can do some moderate off-roading to get you to a campsite or trail head – and get you back out.
