One of the more confusing things for consumers and dealers is waiting for a new truck that seems to be finished but is not shipping. I recently received this email from Frank wondering about his new truck hold up. Hopefully, my answer will help him and help you as well.

I enjoy your YouTube channel a lot and used it in my research to purchase – or should I say, put a deposit down on – a GMC Sierra 2500 AT4. The real test of your channel is even after making the decision, I still watch all your videos.
What impresses me most is your research, and it seems like you get to the the experts. I can only imagine the volume of story ideas so here’s mine to toss on the pile or into the trash can.
Going into my purchase, I understood the chip shortage so I purposely searched for a vehicle that was already produced having a VIN, order number and dealer stock number assigned. Working with the dealers was a little of a learning experience because some wouldn’t respond unless I gave a deposit on a vehicle while I was on the phone. I finally did find a dealer and worked out a decent deal. So I put a deposit down on a 2500 AT4, with a VIN, order number and stock number. That was 60 days ago.
For the past 60 days it has been waiting in Flint, Michigan, to be put on a train to go to the distribution center to then wait to be put on a truck to the dealer. Again, this is not a chip shortage issue as the truck is built (confirmed by reaching out to GM). Also, my salesperson is frustrated as I’m sure he wants to be paid for the sale.
Looking a the forums, this is common, and looking at the GM website for inventory, it is astonishing to see on the east coast how few 2500s are on lots versus in transit. Many people are months out with some thinking their produced vehicle is lost!

Waiting for a new truck is frustrating especially when it seems like it is finished and just needs to be released to the dealer. The problem isn’t that it needs to be released, it’s that everyone – dealers, salespeople and consumers – have so much more information at their disposals (like forums, computer databases and other things) which provide just enough information to make it even more frustrating. Often, the best course of action is to try not to get so deeply involved and let things happen. Sometimes the more you know, is a bad thing. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

Same problem i have ordered. New gmc 1500. On march 15 th 2022. Was told by dealer totally done in late july just waiting on shipper. Now its 11 -28-22 STILL NO TRUCK JUST SITTING so in the mean time im. Seeing. New 2023 gmc 1500 trucks on dealers lots with way more options then my 2022 so it seems like why dont gmc send out my new. Almost 1 year old truck that is totally done. Before. They send the 2023 out i would love to here from gmc. On this 1

Exact same issue with my ordered 2022 F-350 DRW. Ordered 3/18/22, built 8/16/22 and still hasn’t shipped over 4 months later. Have received and missed 7 estimated delivery date ranges so far. At what point do you pull the plug and walk away from a inept company and try to find an alternative?

My Silverado was finished being built on Sept 30th. I have the vin and just waiting for transport. I have to leave for Fla by end of month. If the truck doesnt come in then I will have to fly back to NJ and then drive it back to Fla.
Anyone know if the dealer can ask to have it picked up?
