A photo circulating around the internet seems to indicate there will be a 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone model. Wait, what? Yup, this previously unannounced trim level might just be for real.
The photo, circulated on a now-deleted Reddit account, is from an also-deleted video showing a collection of 2022 Toyota Tundra trucks. Thanks to one of our viewers, we got this screen shot of the Tundra Capstone as it drives past the camera.
What is a 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
As you can see from the photo, the Tundra Capstone has a new fully chrome grille and a chrome panel along the doors indicating a Capstone trim.
Plus, we can clearly see the i-Force Max hybrid badge on the hood, showing this is the powertrain under the hood.
We reached out to Toyota execs about the photo, and they predictably said, “no comment.”
What will it be like?
At this point, all we have is speculation. However, considering the definition of the word “capstone” and the amount of chrome, this seems to indicate the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone will be a new top trim level. If that’s the case, expect the interior to be lavished with Lexus-level materials. (Think: all-new Lexus LX 600.)
It is also likely this will follow the route of the TRD Pro and will be offered with one cab, one bed length and one powertrain.
This trim will compete with trucks such as the GMC 1500 Denali, Ford F-150 Limited, Ram 1500 Limited, etc. Expect pricing to be in the $70k range, and the trim will likely have every option available on lower trims standard.
The bottom line on the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
All indications show this is a real trim level that wasn’t previously unannounced. It looks likely this is part of a bigger plan for future announcements of other items for the 2022 Tundra.
Also, since it looks like Toyota is not building the hybrid until the spring of 2022, we might see more new details coming our way soon. While the trickling of information is sure to rile some feathers, it does further add to the excitement around this new truck.
