Chevy announced this week that it would be adding a new trim option to the 2022 Silverado lineup. That’s right, the ZR2 package, which is a fan-favorite for the Colorado, will now be offered as an option for the Silverado. This is basically a step above the TrailBoss package with a few unique features to make the truck even more off-road capable. So, let’s get to know the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2.
Not a TRX competitor
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 will only come with one engine option. The 6.2-liter V-8 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission will produce 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This is nowhere near the 700+ horsepower we see offered in the Ram TRX. So while it will be very capable of off-roading in all sorts of environments, this is not a desert racer.
What you need to know about the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2
New to the Silverado, and just for this ZR2 package, are the Multimatic 40mm DSSV spool-valve dampers. These, paired with the new uniquely tuned springs will increase maximum front and rear suspension travel. A new 2-inch lift, 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires plus front and rear e-lockers which are user selectable provide an increased approach and departure angle. The one-pedal rock crawling feature and unique skid plate package also add to the off-road capability.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 only comes in the crew cab configuration with either the short or long bed.
TrailBoss or ZR2?
There isn’t just a whole lot of difference between these trucks. Because Chevy decided not to go the beastly Raptor/TRX route with the ZR2, deciding between this and the TrailBoss may be a little difficult.
