The 2021 F-150 police responder will offer higher top speeds, new safety features and capabilities that will make the truck safer for officers and citizens alike adding on to the long heritage of police trucks Ford has built over the years.
Faster than ever
In addition to being the first of its kind, the 2021 F-150 police responder will offer a top speed of 120 MPH to assist officers in high-speed chases. Also available will be Police Engine Idle, which will let an officer remove the key from the F-150 and securely exit the running truck without losing power to important features like lights and sirens.
The truck’s standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine produces 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. That is more than any other pursuit-rated vehicle. And, paired with the 10-speed transmission and some unique calibration, an officer will be able to go a lot faster in this truck than a standard F-150.
As you might imagine, speeds like this require special tires. Ford puts the only all-terrain tires available for pursuit vehicles on the new F-150 police responder: Goodyear LT265/70R18 LRC BSW Wrangler Enforcer all-terrain tires.
2021 F-150 police safety features
The F-150 police responder will have automatic four-wheel-drive mode and a torque-on-demand transfer case. This will allow the truck to constantly adjust the torque to the front and rear wheels in real-time to improve performance and handling on all types of surfaces. This a-auto mode will enable safer cornering at high speeds.
To reduce the amount of time an F-150 police responder spends in the maintenance bay, Ford is including the all-new Sync 4 with wireless software updates.
Ford listens to officers and builds to their needs
For a while now, officers have wanted to add the towing and hauling capabilities of pickup trucks to their fleets, but have been worried about speed and handling. Ford rises to the occasion with this new pursuit-rated F-150. Now departments that need to haul boats, trailers and ATVs will be able to, using the same vehicles they use for patrol.
The truck will come with a 40-40 split front seat with a blank space in the middle for custom consoles, or a factory-installed console can be chosen with an available fold-flat workspace. The front seats will feature steel intrusion plates in the seatbacks to increase officer safety and a variety of police lights will be available, factory-installed.
Available this fall, the F-150 responder will be built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri.
