Looking at the current growth of this media outlet (website and YouTube channel), it is quite clear to me, the next step is to start doing longer and more in-depth reviews of various trucks and SUVs. This and the many reasons listed below, translates into it’s time to go truck shopping. Here are the behind-the-scenes reasons on the why of buying a truck.
Why buy a new truck?
First, as an automotive journalist, I have the opportunity to have week-long “press loans” of a variety of different trucks and SUVs throughout the year. While these loans give a small taste on the overall ownership experience, nothing really replicates actually, well, owning a truck.
Second, on a personal level, I’d like to do more family camping, more work at our farm and more of, well, everything with towing, hauling, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. While I play a lot of golf, I’m missing out during the winter months on being outdoors.
My ’62 Chevy C10 is a great truck, yet he gets a little drafty, cold and cranky in the winter. By purchasing a new truck, I’ll have access to a more reliable winter vehicle as well.
Third, I’d like to do some more driving and capturing unique stories. Press loans typically come with a mileage restriction, and freedom from this restriction will help me immensely especially considering everything in Nebraska and the surrounding states is a multi-hour drive.
Fourth, I really, REALLY do love trucks. I go through periods of time with various SUVs or no press loans at all, and I miss driving a new truck. By having my own truck at my disposal, I’ll also be able to deliver more videos and interesting things I learn owning a truck.
Fifth, and finally, I have a growing tax problem thanks to the success of this channel. Buying a truck this year will likely also mean buying a truck next year, the year after and all the foreseeable future years of owning this media outlet.
The bottom line on buying a new truck
With these reasons, I plan to explore all aspects of buying a new truck. I’ve already done a video on a Sunday shopping trip to several dealers including my local Fremont Ford dealer. I’ve done a virtual truck shopping video with a Live YouTube audience. Also, I’ve done stories and videos on buying a new, first model year of a truck, resale value, 2020 half-ton dependability. Plus, I’ll be doing more videos.
Oh, and what truck? I’ve settled on a 2021 Ford F150 PowerBoost (if I can find one) with a Ram 1500 as the back-up truck.
The reasons for the Ford are really based on it being the newest truck on the market, the PowerBoost being the newest unique engine and how I think views and search traffic will help attract attention. At the end of the day, buying a new truck is a personal as well as a business decision.
Stay tuned as I bring you more stories and videos related to buying a new truck — including driving it home for the first time. I MUST have a new truck in the driveway by December 31, 2020 ,for tax reasons. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
