The baby Power Stroke 3.0L diesel will now find a home in the 2019 Ford F150 XLT pickups with the 302a package. This means consumers will save some money shopping for a diesel F150. Ford announced the news of the expansion noting they are responding to consumer requests. Prior to this news the baby Power Stroke was only available in Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trims meaning consumers had to opt for the higher trim package and then the higher diesel surcharge price. This change should allow more consumers, with less money to spend, access to the Power Stroke diesel.
The diesel will now be offered in the XLT trim with the 302a package. This $4,345 package adds:
- XLT Chrome Appearance Package
- Heated Front-Seats
- 10-way Power Driver and Front Passenger Seats
- Remote Start System
Pricing for the 2019 F-150 SuperCab 4×2, 302A Diesel starts at $46,255 (includes $1,595 destination. It is not available on the regular cab or long wheel base (163 wb).
The base engine for the F150 is a 3.3L V6 and adding the diesel adds $4,995 to your price. If you were to move up from the 2.7L EcoBoost, it would add $4,000 and it is $3,000 more than the 5.0L V8.
Another important thing to note is the F150 Power Stroke is the only half-ton diesel available on the market today. Both GM and Ram are working on either new or refreshed diesel engines, however, they are not on the market yet.
Officially Ford’s engine boasts EPA-estimated ratings of 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city and 25 mpg combined. These are the highest EPA-estimated ratings available in a full-size pickup truck.
It can also tow upwards of 11,400 lbs and carry 1,940 lbs of payload when properly equipped.
The builder configurator on Ford.com isn’t updated as of the time of this post, but dealer can now order this pickup. Expect the configurator to be updated before July, 2019.
