A new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is set to make its debut in February 2019 with a new look, gas engine, 10-speed Allison transmission and, most importantly, an easy to use side bed step to access the middle of the bed. Finally!
At an exclusive unveil last month in Arizona, we got up close and personal with the design of the big, bold new Silverado HD. In person, the new Silverado HD looks like it is considerably larger than the prior generation. It is so large, you would think it is a whole new class of pickup.
This size means the new Silverado HD only borrows the roof from the new Silverado 1500 and the rest of the sheet metal is new to the larger HD.
Chevy didn’t announce dimensions, but it says the truck shares the same 3 inches of rear legroom gained like the half-ton pickup as well as other “similar architectural changes.”
It also shares the same spelled out Chevrolet grille as Silverado half-ton work trucks come with from the factory.
Powering the Flint, Michigan built pickup will be an all-new gasoline engine with direct injection mated to a six-speed transmission or the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 with 910 lb-ft of torque mated to an all-new Allison 10-speed transmission.
Chevy says there will be “all-new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities and a host of technologies and features designed specifically for heavy-duty truck customers.” These features will likely be the same as found in the Silverado 1500 as well as few new items.
The new 2020 Silverado HD will go on sale mid-2019 and we will see the official debut likely next year in Detroit.
