Who would have thought pickup trucks would be the latest battleground for startup electric vehicle automakers? First, Tesla promised a truck. Then Rivian revealed its all-electric truck. Now Atlis Motor Vehicle (AMV) has debuted its latest concept, the one you see above, the XT.
Boasting dimensions somewhere between an F-150 and F-250, the XT is fitted with a 6.5-foot bed and four doors that lead to a very well appointed cabin.
Atlis says the truck, when it goes into production in 2020, will come in three range offerings: 300-, 400-, and 500-miles of range. The base truck will have a towing capacity of 5,000 to 20,000 pounds. The dually version, which will come later, will be able to pull an impressive 35,000 pounds with a gooseneck.
In terms of power, AMV claims the unloaded XT can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 5 seconds. Perhaps more impressive, a fully loaded-down XT can do 0-60 mph in 18 seconds in 18 seconds while maintaining 65 mph up a 6% grade.
Atlis also claims the truck can be recharged in 15 minutes. If true, that would be a tremendous feat and make it a pretty realistic daily driver. We’ll have to wait and see, though. It’s hard to imagine a small upstart like Atlis has better charging chops than a General Motors or a Tesla.
Regardless, we’re excited to see the limits of truck capability and power being tested—even if it’s in EV form.
