Since the Mazda CX-50 was all-new for 2023, don’t expect huge changes for the 2024 model year. You do see price bump toward the middle of the trim scale, but some trims have been dropped, and most of the increases are modest for a year-over-year increase.
So, here’s what you need to know about this vehicle in its second year.
Base 2.5 S dropped
The base 2.5 S trim has been dropped from the 2024 Mazda CX-50 lineup, so the standard infotainment screen size is now 10.25 inches as the new base trim is the 2.5 S Select. You’ll also have standard dual automatic climate controls, rear passenger vents and a full-wrapped leather steering wheel. The 2.5 S Preferred Plus trim has also been dropped, so you do see a steeper price increase between the 2.5 S Preferred and 2.5 S Premium trims.
All-terrain improvements
Because the CX-50 is meant to be more off-road ready than the CX-50, a few of the changes for 2024 are meant to encourage more all-terrain adventures. So, you’ll see new dampers and re-calibrated electric power-assisted steering systems.
Powertrains remain the same
There are no changes to the powertrains for the 2024 Mazda CX-50. So your base engine is the Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that delivers 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The up-level engine is a 2.5-liter turbo 4 – and it has two different power deliveries depending on the fuel you use. With 93 octane, it’ll deliver 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, but with 87 octane, you’re looking at 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
2024 Mazda CX-50 pricing
Though the CX-50 was new for 2023, this is actually the second price increased the vehicle has gotten. Prices are now about $2k more than they were when pricing was originally announced. The 2024 Mazda CX-50 pricing, without the $1,375 destination fee, is as follows:
The bottom line
The Mazda CX-50 is a damn fine crossover, and we’d argue we like the interior amenities better than the more-popular and less-expensive CX-5. The 2024 changes are minimal and account for consumer tastes in trims and features.
