2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition

The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV edition, a mouthful of a name for sure, joins the pack as the latest collaboration between the well-known aftermarket company and GMC. This will push the recently redesigned GMC Canyon to a whole new level, and wow does it look good.

The AEV Editions, initially introduced on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, are now available across the entire GMC truck lineup. Yes, even HD trucks!

They take the more off-road focused trim, like the AT4 and build on it with even more off-road gear. These editions are wholly meant for those who prefer dirt over pavement.

What’s new for 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV?

Specifically the 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition boasts an even more commanding stance, enhanced hardware and several chassis upgrades, including:

  • 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires with an additional AEV in-bed vertical spare tire mount
  • Updated front fascia and larger fender flares for larger, wider tracks and an impressive 12.2-inch ground clearance
  • 4.5-inch factory-installed lift, providing 1.5 inches more than the Canyon AT4X
  • Heavy-duty, AEV stamped-steel front and rear bumpers with heavy-duty recovery points and a front bumper capable of accommodating a winch
  • Five ultra-high-strength, hot-stamped boron steel skid plates for optimized underbody protection (radiator, steering gear, transmission/transfer case, fuel tank and rear differential)
  • Three standard auxiliary control switches for integrating off-road and overlanding accessories
  • Exclusive AEV beadlock-capable Salta wheels
  • Prominent AEV branding on the bumpers, embroidered head restraints and all-weather floor liners

With an assertive lift and new AEV hardware, the 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition achieves impressive front approach, breakover and departure angles, measuring 38.2 degrees, 26.9 degrees and 26.0 degrees, respectively. These robust bumpers, designed for serious off-road adventures, come with integrated heavy-duty cast rear recovery points and front winch capability, ensuring durability and corrosion resistance. Additionally, the rear bumper features removable corners for easy removal and reinstallation when tackling challenging trails.

The 2024 Canyon continues to enhance its suite of advanced technology. The Baja drive mode, exclusive to the Canyon AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition, now includes a new launch-control feature. This feature allows drivers to simultaneously press the brake and accelerator pedals, and upon releasing the brake pedal, it enhances acceleration both on- and off-road. The smart launch control feature learns from the driving surface and adjusts engine speed and torque accordingly to improve subsequent launch performance.

Finally, General Motor’s Ultifi Platform, the name for its vehicle software, enables the addition of new features and software updates over time. For example, it can provide over-the-air updates for off-road aids and updated maps.

This truck will be built at GM’s Wentzville Assembly in Wentzville, Missouri. The 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is expected to be available for customer orders later this year.

The bottom line

GM has focused its efforts in recent years to catch up in the stock off-road truck space, and now with this Canyon, there is an AT4X AEV Edition in every size of truck GMC offers to consumers. That’s really impressive considering GM only had the Chevy Z71 package just a decade ago. GM appears to have finally caught up, and it will be interesting to see how consumers react.
