The Ford F-150 Lightning production was halted due to a battery fire sending shockwaves on the internet. This issue looks to be fixed and production will begin again on March 13, 2023.
The fire and production stoppage occurred on February 4, 2023, on a Ford holding lot while the truck was going through final inspection.
Ford F-150 Lightning production restarts
With the battery issue solved working with supplier SK Innovation, the Ford F-150 Lightning is back in production.
“In the weeks ahead, we will continue to apply our learnings and work with SK On’s team to ensure we continue delivering high-quality battery packs – down to the battery cells. As REVC ramps up production, we will continue holding already-produced vehicles while we work through engineering and parts updates,” Ford said in a statement to CNBC.
Ford declined to go into details on what caused the battery fire according to CNBC.
The bottom line
Resuming production is good news for Ford and Ford Lightning reservation holders. Ford said in January 2022 it was aiming to ramp up production to build 150,000 Lightning trucks annually. A recent sales report that Ford public relations shared said through February of 2023, they have built 3,600 trucks — which means they have a long way to go.
