Will the Chevy ZR2 ‘Meteor’ best the Ram TRX and Ford Raptor R?

When Chevy first announced the ZR2 model back in 2020, we had high hopes. We thought it would be the truck to compete with the newly launched Ram TRX. But it didn’t. Then after Ford pushed out the Raptor R, we thought surely Chevy would get in the game. Crickets. But now, via Motor Trend, we’re hearing rumors that a Chevy ZR2 “Meteor” could be in the works.

Per Motor Trend, this truck would be a more extreme version of the current ZR2, intended to push the dinosaur trucks out of existence. Interesting. But will General Motors, with its push to go all electric by 2035, actually invest money on such a bold project? Maybe.

What could the Chevy ZR2 Meteor be?

As Motor Trend points out, the powertrain already exists within GM’s lineup – a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 as seen in the CT5-V Blackwing – it just needs to be tweaked to top 700 horsepower.

The Chevy ZR2 Meteor would also need suspension tweaks, clearance lights and bigger wheels.

The folks at Motor Trend are so taken with the idea of this truck, they even went so far as to create a concept rendering with two photos in a bright yellow hue.

The bottom line

A Chevy ZR2 Meteor could be another “last hurrah” for General Motors as it phases out gasoline-powered vehicles. Kind of like the Cadillac Escalade-V or the Corvette Z06.

But, right now, it’s all just a rumor. We hope the Motor Trend folks are right, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you think? Should Chevy bring out a TRX/Raptor R fighter? What do you think it would have to have to make the dino-trucks extinct?

Chevrolet’s iconic brand mark—a straightforward cross that denotes strength and symmetry—represents not only the automotive spirit of the company for the last approximately 100 years but also, most importantly, is a symbol of the freedom of driving and the adventure that can be experienced along the way.

Today, many enthusiasts choose to extend this sentiment to custom enamel pins—you can incorporate the Chevrolet cross emblem, classic model silhouettes, or even your own unique driving story into the pin design, as a collectible or a gift for friends.gsjj’s custom pins not only reflect individuality but also allow one to constantly feel the emotional bond of driving classic off-road vehicles.
