The GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 were refreshed for the 2022 model year. Though the 10-speed transmission wasn’t new, there were a slew of complaints for the refreshed trucks stating the transmission provided poor-quality shifts and that the malfunction indicator lamp could come on. The good news: General Motors has now released a Silverado, Sierra transmission fix.
In short, the fix is to replace the transmission control module and all related software programming.
To be clear, this affects the refreshed 2022 models not the “Limited” carryover trucks that also wore a 2022 badge.
If you look at the NHTSA website, you can see this isn’t an official recall, plus the manufacturer communication hasn’t been listed for either the Silverado 1500 or the Sierra 1500. You can, however, look at the powertrain complaints, and see both trucks have a few official complaints logged about this issue.
The 2022 Silverado currently has three recalls, and the 2022 Sierra has two.
How to get the Silverado, Sierra transmission fix
It is important to note this fix for the 2022 Silverado and Sierra is still under warranty. If you have questions about your truck, you are advised to reach out to Chevrolet and GMC directly with this service update number: N222383250. This applies to both trucks.

The bottom line
Whether you’re experiencing transmissions issues or not, if you bought the 2022 Silverado or Sierra, it’s probably a good idea to reach out to GM about the transmission fix. If your truck is in good working order, you want to keep it that way.

I think I read it correctly, The transmission fix only applies to the 2022 refresh Sierra 1500’s and not the 2022 Sierra 1500 limited which has the same 10 speed transmissions. What’s the difference?

Wow. I bought a 22 Chevy Silverado earlier last year. I noticed the transmission problem. Occasionally the transmission seemed confused like it didn’t know which gear to shift to. It was unsettling. I also had a problem with the oil pressure. It always read low on the dial. Always. This was with less than 5 K miles and no oil leaks. Now GM says they can resolve the transmission issue. Too late. I ended up trading that Silverado in for a 22 F 150 STX. It’s been great.
