The new Maverick is getting a lot of attention — and for good reason. It is the first compact pickup truck (yes, we’re calling it a pickup), and it comes out this fall. With all of the questions and comments coming in, Publisher Tim Esterdahl decided he’d get online and build one out to see where the sweet spot is when it comes to Ford Maverick price points.
XL, XLT or Lariat?
Esterdahl is a big fan of the XLT package on Ford pickup trucks. It’s what he chose when he bought his F-150 Powerboost last winter and he really likes the practicality of the trim, so he immediately chooses that in the build.
Now we know from our pricing post that the 2022 Maverick price tops out at $36k with all the features. That’s Lariat trim, 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and all the fixings. But if you start with the XLT, which has a base price of $22,280, you can afford to add a few things and still stay more than $10k under the max price.

As-built this little truck would come in at just more than $25k. And we mean just. Barely.
If Esterdahl put down $2,500 for a downpayment and got a good interest rate on his financing, he would end up with monthly payments of approximately $400. Considering a lot of vehicle payments are about the same as a mortgage payment these days, (Esterdahl’s F-150 is $900/mo) we think this is a pretty incredible deal for a compact pickup truck that is going to rival any sedan when it comes to fuel economy and will blow every sedan out of the water when it comes to utility.
