2026 Mazda CX-5

While we thought the Madzda CX-5’s days might be numbered because of the newer CX-50, it appears we were wrong. Mazda North America recently revealed a refreshed model with some cool new details we expect to filter throughout the lineup. While we don’t know pricing or availability – other than it’ll go on sale in early 2026 – we do have some information to share. Here’s what we know about the 2026 Mazda CX-5.

2026 Mazda CX-5 debuts new infotainment

This is perhaps the biggest news out of the entire press release. The Mazda infotainment with its rotary dial and lack of touch screen has received a lot of hate from media and potential customers. Well, Mazda finally listened. The 2026 CX-5 will get an available 15.6-inch integrated touchscreen display. Can we get an, Amen? Though the release doesn’t explicitly state it, the photos show the rotary dial is gone.  The new system comes with Google built-in, which includes Google Maps, Google Play and the voice-activated Google Assistant. There was no mention of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but publications like Car and Driver state it will be included.

New CX-5 gets bigger

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is 4.5 inches longer with a 4.5-inch-longer wheelbase. It is also a half inch wider than the outgoing model. All this translates into more passenger and cargo space. The door openings are larger for easier entry and exit, which also means it’ll be easier for parents and car seats. Got strollers and gear? The cargo area is now 2 inches longer and more than 1 inch higher with a lower lift-in height. All this translates into a much more family friendly SUV.

CX-5 design gets an update

This is not a complete overhaul, but more of an evolution. The overall side profile will look nearly identical to the previous model. But you’ll see a tightening up of the design on the front, with some more elegant finishing touches. Then at the rear of the vehicle, you’ll see the 2026 Mazda CX-5 take on the “Mazda” lettering badge introduced in the CX-70 and CX-90, which also adds an element of elegance.

Mazda adds a hybrid option in 2027

The base powertrain will be the same 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G 4-cylinder engine that is currently in the 2025 models. It delivers 187 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. What remains TBD is whether the 2.5 Turbo will return or if it gets replaced by the upcoming hybrid. Speaking of which, we have few details about this new hybrid powertrain. What we do know is that it will incorporate the new fuel-efficient SkyActiv-Z engine and pair it to Mazda’s hybrid system. In a previous release by Mazda, we know that SkyActiv-Z is a 2.5-liter inline 4-yclinder engine that is set to be the cornerstone for Mazda as it electrifies its lineup.
