Ram trucks warranty

In a shocking move, new 2026 Ram trucks warranty will now be 10 years, 100,000 miles on powertrain and out does the competition by a large measure.

It also answers critics who claim new Hurricane engines can’t last even that long.

New 2026 Ram truck warranty

The new warranty raises the current terms from 5 years and 60,000 miles to the now much longer warranty period in response to the fact most consumers are taking out 7 years loans and that didn’t sit right with Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis.

“Everything is more expensive, and trucks are certainly no exception.  Truck buyers are financing purchases for longer periods of time, with nearly 80 percent of new truck loans exceeding five years,” said Tim Kuniskis, CEO Ram brand. “Our customers are making a long-term investment in Ram, and with America’s Best Full-size Truck Limited Powertrain Warranty, Ram is making a stronger and longer commitment to our customers.”

The limited powertrain warranty is applicable to the original owner of 2026 model-year Ram trucks and vans, including the Chassis Cab lineup, according to Ramtrucks. The warranty covers the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials, and axles for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty offer includes retail purchases and leases to individuals and businesses, excludes fleet purchases.

Ram says “America’s Best Full-size Truck Limited Powertrain Warranty is part of Ram’s commitment to 25 product announcements over the next 18 months.”

This also follows Ram’s announcements of the returns of the Hemi 5.7-liter V-8, a return to the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN truck series and a new marketing campaign.

Our take

For a long while, critics have taken aim at new truck engines powered by turbocharged engines, like the Hurricane engine in the Ram 1500, claiming that they won’t last 100,000 miles with the workload truck customers demand from them.

These new engines, not exactly new since they have been in Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs for a few years now, are a first for Ram 1500 trucks, have also faced many concerns from concerned truck guys. With the longer warranty, those concerns should also be a bit tempered as well.

How do those critics say now with this new warranty? Likely not as strong, but still there. It is tough for guys to change. I should know, I’m one of them.

That's a solid move, I'm most excited because I hope it forces Ford and GM to follow suit.

They brought back the 80's! I remember when Lee Iaccoca did this. I'm glad they brought it back. This renders the arguments about oil fill sensors and cylinder deactivation moot.

I will say that I wish it included some wear items like seat material and button wear but since there's no buttons anymore...

This is a great move by Ram. 👍

I thought it was a solid move. And like @Fightnfire I thought it would put pressure on Ford, GM and Toyota to follow suit. I went to bed excited about the news.

Then, I woke up. Checked the comments. Good lord.

Here's the top responses:

"You will def need it with Dodge/Ram"
"Most people drive 20k miles a year, this is only a 5 year warranty"
"I drive 40k a year, this isn't going to help."
"Good luck trying to get warranty work done Stellantis dealership are the worst"
"It is going to drive good techs away with bad warranty work pay"
"If you take it in for warranty work, they won't fix anything and you'll still have to pay out of pocket"
"Engines/transmissions won't last that long, this will bankrupt Ram"
"This is a joke right"
"Not going to make me change my mind"
"It is going to rust out before then."
"For the working class this means nothing. My truck already came with a 100k warranty"

The last one, I commented back to a few of them and pointed out that the warranty they have came from a dealer not the manufacturer. One person said, "so what. What's your point?" I said, "this means people don't have to search out specific dealers or buy extended warranties. It applies to all trucks."

I swear. Give people an inch and they want a mile. Ram didn't have to do anything. They decided to extend the warranty and people are hating on them for it. That's just crazy to me.

@testerdhal, don't let haters keep you from enjoying a good thing. This is a win for consumers.

This move is forcing RAM and RAM dealers to get their shit together when it comes to their build/work quality. If RAM builds a bad product, this will cost them a fortune, and if dealers provide a shitty experience, this will drive consumers away from the brand.

I really like this move from RAM and hopefully, all other truck manufacturers will follow suit. Looking at you Ford and GM, things are pretty bad right now for the two of them on the reliability side.

Just a SMH moment. I've gone through the comments, added a few replies and now I'm putting on the ignore part of my brain. I just can't with the rest of the comments. I'll let those people have at it. If they want to see the world in a negative view point, have at it. I choose not to.

I remember Ram getting these comments back when the Internet was new. Some people just have to hate. I laughed at their comments then, and I laugh at them now.

I also think this move screams a little panic from RAM. When Hyundai/KIA did this it was in response to poor trust, because of poor quality, with US consumers. A couple of manufacturers followed suit in time only to then pull back to the 5yr 60k.

Just curious, did the others change theirs when Dodge switched to 7/70 in the 2000's? And Ram had a 5/100 in 2010, then it fell back to the 5/60 like the rest. Never thought about it but it looks like they bounced around a lot. Did GM or Ford ever change theirs?

RAM/Dodge actually offered a lifetime warranty in the late 2000's. GM offered a 100k in response for 2 or 3 years late 2000's. Ford never went above 60k I don't think.

If they respond I could see it taking a few years. RAM's market share has really fallen off from a high of mid to high 20's back down to around 18%, and that's with the total market growing.

I blame the telephone dial shifter for that.
