NHTSA Ford Bronco Sport, Maverick recall details
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Mavericks have batteries that could “experience internal weld and/or caston-strap failures.”
Ford noted that this recall applies to 12V batteries in the affected internal combustion vehicles, not electric vehicles.
If this happens, the battery can suddenly cause degradation of the battery while driving. According to the recall bulletin, if this occurs while driving, the vehicle could while slowing down or fail to restart after auto-stopping, increasing the risk of a crash. This could also cause hazard lights to not work.
Dealers will inspect and if necessary, replace the 12-volt battery, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed January 29, 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 25S02. Vehicles in this recall were previously repaired under 24V-267 and will need to have the new remedy completed.
The NHTSA said that as of Nov. 20, 2024, Ford was not aware of any crashes connected to this issue.
